i won 4-3 in a 5-4 race. shoulda been 4-2 but i dogged the 8 in the 4th rack and he ran out.:(

oh yea .... i don't know what the heck was goin on but i had a couple of funny breaks that probly cost me 1 rack also.

twice the cue ball flew up in the air when i broke ...hit the light and flew off the table. 2 times in a friggin row. i was breaking my normal position and my normal speed and that never happened to me before.

we were playing at their place so i don't know if it was the cue ball the way he was racking or what. i changed my position and my speed after that . never made a ball but at least i was not giving him bih after the break.

did i mention i played great and beat a 6 who just placed 5th in the singles nationals. :grin-square::grin-square::grin-square::grin-square:

For the cueball jumping up, make sure the head ball is tight. If it's off, a break that is just a bit off can send the cueball flying.
 
Question about play on bad equipment in league. I'm a bit scared for Thursday, new TAP league for me, I'm a 7 after just one week of play since I won 3-0 (highest you can be) and according to my friend we are going to be in a place with a horrible bar table. He played there and said the table cloth was sticky with the spilled drinks.

I'm not even going to take my own cue and will use a McDermott Lucky I used once before since I don't want A. get crap from the table on my shaft or cue and B. get it stolen.

In a situation with a bad table with probably crap dinged up balls and oversize cueball is it better to just play as the lower level players do and just hit things center ball and rely on pocketing more than position? Maybe play around with leaving the guy tough shots instead of trying banks on dead rails?

I am going to assume they will put up a low level player against me since as a 7 I would have to give up a huge spot to most players and I'm a huge underdog on a bad table so bunting the balls around for a bit till I have a mickey mouse run out may work out as it's a called shot league so they can't just get lucky by slamming everything.

Bring a beater cue.
Wear a glove (Seriously, it will keep you from touching the nasty table).
Hit everything center ball.
Play a lot of safes.

Thanks, I don't have a glove, but the other ones I am planning on. Maybe I'll buy a glove today to bring with me. My son uses one, he can't really play without one now, but I don't like the feeling of the nylon against my skin when the shaft moves.

So I'll have a glove and a $40 McDermott Lucky cue in a $10 soft vinyl case tomorrow. I can miss all I want and people will take it as normal based on the equipment LOL.

I picked up the Lucky cue at my son's Junior Nationals which was at the same time in Vegas as the CSI pro events and the BCAPL nationals. I did not pack my cue but did bring my shaft in my son's case, bought the cheap Lucky cue from a vendor and the 3/8 x 10 pin matched my shaft very well. In this case at the crappy bar table I don't even know if I want to bring my regular shaft or just use the Lucky shaft. I don't think it will make much difference in my shooting on a crap table and I'll keep my main shaft clean.

I've found that when we have to play on an old beater Dynamo with a 10lb cue ball, my low deflection shaft has no effect on the cue ball lol. I usually bring a cheap Players cue or just pick a nice piece of drift wood off the wall.

I would also recommend changing the way you play position a little bit. I know that when I play in a pool room with GCs in reasonable shape I will go to 1 or 2 rails for shape. On bar tables with dead rails and slow cloth I think it's better to float and try to hold the cueball when possible.

Yep, that's one of my issues when playing on a 7 footer, I'm so used to hitting at medium speed and going a rail or 2 that I have a tough time telling my muscles to hit light. Especially since many of the bar tables are not close to level which makes hitting soft a pretty much random shot for making the ball or getting position hehe. I remember I hit a softer shot for position on the short rail, no more than 3 feet from the pocket. The object ball bounced off the rail twice on the way to the pocket and then hung up against the rail. It's like playing on the Titanic as it's going down, everything just wants to roll to the side.

I'll just have to put my game aside and go native with being happy with whatever the table gives me instead of trying for good position.

Hang, I'm sure its not gonna be the nightmare you think its going to be. Just get there early if you can to practice a bit on the table in question to get a feel for it. I play on beat up valley bar boxes on a weekly basis. Some are worse than others. Some play slow and some play faster than you'd think with cheap cloth they usually have on them. Check the rails to see how dead they play. Most play fine. I worry about tables that aren't level more than anything else. You have to be careful slow-rolling shots as they WILL curve on you. Just try to play position where you won't need to do that. Good luck.

I'll post a full report on my first league match on a crappy table when it's over.

Hard to believe, but this is maybe the 4th time in my 24ish years of playing that I am playing on a really bad 7 footer. And maybe only the dozenth time that I am playing on a 7 footer.

Most everything around me is all 7 foot Diamond Smart Tables. We have two exceptions though; One bar has two Dynamo bar tables and the other bar has two eight foot Valley tables with 5 1/2" pockets quadruple shimmed to 4 1/2". The pockets play dead like a corpse. Both 8 footers have Valley cloth and they use Brunswick Centennials with a Valley cue ball. They are the most retarded tables I have ever played on.
 
Our 8-ball team finished the session in first place, pretty much wire to wire. Playoffs start next week, we play the wild card team, which will be drawn tomorrow night.

When we formed this team, I said that I would take any three of our top four players against the teams in our division this session best three, and like our chances. We worked the math....our top four players (ability wise, SL7, SL6, and two SL5's) finished the session with and 83% winning percentage. Pretty cool.

Looking forward to our tri cups, to see if we can go to states!

in our area the 1st place team automatically goes to tri cups. the following 6 or 8 teams....depending on how many teams in the division have a play off for a tri cup berth.

all the bottom dwelling teams... " those that did not finish 1st or qualify for a play off spot " are entered into the" best of the rest tourny." 1st place in winners and losers side go to tri cups. we call it the last chance tourny lol.

Here, all four teams that make the division playoffs also go to Tri Cup, regardless of how the playoffs go. The playoffs are just for the local bragging rights, and the cash.

Here you have to be one of the four teams to win their bracket (three matches) to go to States, where you can qualify for Vegas.

So while I'm excited for the playoffs, its Tri Cup that I'm focused on.
 
TAP League on Droid and iOS

We wrapped up the Spring session last week. Our team won Mon night 8 ball and our Tues 9 ball team came in 5th out of 6. We started back up this week and are doing full Android testing now for TAP. Both Nights have gone relatively smooth. We have testers working across the country tonight again and are getting the app ready for release in the next several weeks. Several licensees are reporting that they will be paperless by the fall, including our league. TAP Leagues with No more score sheets in 2014 and all electronic device scoring with integrated National Handicapping. Really enjoying league play right now :grin:

played my napa league tonight. i won the lag and went and looked at the race matrix.

8 ball ...me 5 him 3

9 ball ..me 3 him 4

10 ball.. 4-4 race.

i quickly ruled out 9 ball with me being the under dog. i hardlt ever play 9 ball even though i think my game has improved. i have watched this kid and he is a straight shooter and hits every thing warp speed and gets more than his share of lucky rolls due to the slop factor.

10 ball was a 50/50 race so i ruled it out.

i chose 8 ball even though i gotta spot him 2 games. also figured 8 ball was my best and his worst game.

i won 5-1 mainly because i got him frustrated with my saftey play .he took several flyers at warp speed...kinda reminded me of some apa players.:smile: helps when you get at least 1 bih each rack :D the 1 game i lost was because i got careless on my next to last ball .

immediately after i won he asked if i gambled. i said i have occasionally. he challenged me to a race in 9 ball. i said i don't gamble on slop. we can play either 8 or 10 ball. he declined.

as i sat down a team mates g/f said ...i am glad you beat him...he is a cocky lil ass hole. i would not know as i have never faced him before and i am new to this league.

i looked up his stats after i got home and saw he is in 1st place in points. guess thats a decent reason to be a lil cocky. i thought that was kinda a lil nitty of him to ask to gamble after he got an ass whippin by me though.

i told her monday for her and him to take over the team. the 1st thing she asked is was i still gonna play on it. i said yea if you want me to.

it took a load off my mind and it showed tue and wed nights at league. i am playing better than i have in a long time .

i don't have to worry about who shows up.

no more gettin pissed when "this 5 " has an object ball 6'' from a pocket...the cue ball a foot from it and he drills it at warp speed with the cue ball following the object ball in the pocket.

no more gettin pissed when same guy gets bih with the 1 ball hanging in bottom left pocket and the 2 ball in upper right pocket. he takes the cue ball and sts it 4'' from the one drills it at warp speed and draws the cue half way up table and gets hooked in a cluster. guess he was tryin to draw table lenght or sumthin ..idk. all he had to do was come off the rail with the cue ball and had an easy shot at the 2.

no more gettin pissed when he does stupid shit like above and gives bih about 5 times a match.

i don't even know how he made it to a 5.

Last week, I was pretty frustrated with my 9-ball game, and told you all about it. I felt that I didn't hit the ball hard enough, and that I would leave my misses in an easy position for my opponent.

My solution, I felt, was to either hit the shots harder or to stop missing.

Last night, I stopped missing :-)

I stepped to to play, hit some shots the way I always do, I said to myself that I wasn't gonna change the way I play. I felt good, and beat my opponent 17-3.

We will see if it carries over, but at least this week was a success.
