Here's the question,...... When was the last/best time you ever got "the look?"

Let's face it: We all try to play players that are better than us because that in turn makes us better players , right? For top tier players it is keeping their opponent locked up by skillful shooting on offense and/or defense. Name the game,..... that doesn't matter.

Here's what "the look" looks like ...............

It's that look of disdain your opponent has. A straight brow with a face that could write a chapter in a book. Your opponent it totally disgusted with you leaving them in the dust, (for whatever reason).
If you are looking for the look you can find it at key times in your match-up. One good spot is when your opponent is racking for you for the ump-teenth time. Another time might be after a particularly tricky bank/jump/carom/combination.

Here's one of my favorites even though he tries to disguise the look by not making it a glaring look ...... it was more like an under the eye-brow "look", but a "look" none the less.

These "looks" to me are priceless when you get them from others.

I know I have given the look to a few opps in matches. :frown:

Last Tuesday in a 14.1 game. Sometimes, players will call safe and pocket the 15th ball making for a full rack for you. This happen twice in the match. Most times they will leave the CB at the other end of th table.

I've been using what I call a 1 rail behind the rack safety when this occurs. This is sending the CB to the rail behind the rack , coming off the rail to the the third ball in from the corner ball of the rack.

If done properly, the CB will stick the rack, balls will come out the front and if hit with the right speed, a ball will hit a rail.

This is what I did on both those full racks. The first time the other player just looked at that safety.....he had never seen that safe done. Got even a better look the second time. The reason I like this and use it quite well is because it will not leave a shot, they will have to play safe and moves balls out of the rack.

I also like when a player plays a safe or leaves what they think is a safe, remains standing while you shoot, thinking they will be shooting soon......but you make a shot and they go sit down.

Where I practice, I'm the only that practices and plays 14.1. There are times when practicing, I will catch players at other tables watching me run balls. From some, it is their first time seeing someone setting up a break ball, making it and opening up the rack and keep running balls.

This is one of my favorites too. Especially when they are holding their cue while standing or sitting and you get to see them put their cue aside to get comfortable.:grin-square:

not the best example in video, its earl, unless hes up by 5 racks hes gonna have the look. either way, the look is often given and recieved, its the good day or its the bad day. I played a guy who is much better than me simply bc he plays everyday, I play once or twice a week, but when I get into stroke, I can handle myself quite nicely, on this particular day I beat him 7-1, I dogged a tough nine, but my safties were perfect, I missed twice the whole set, I was in a mind set that if a bomb went off next table over I wouldnt have heard it. I got the Look, and it felt fantastic :D
 
I usually am getting "the look" from my wife........but it's rarely pool-related!!! :embarrassed2::D

Yesterday :) It was a friendly game and we where goofing around. Last friday we played 10 ball and i pocketed the 10 ball in a 6 diamond cut shot while looking at he`s face rather than the ball :) To mess with him even more i ended last nights 9 ball match with banking both the 8 and 9 ball while looking at my opponent instead of the balls.
We are good friends, so it`s just for fun, but i can tell that he gets a little annoyed :D

At the homeroom, they play straight pool in league before ours. I try to catch the houseman to see if I can get a few quick games in w/him. I seen him pull this move and knew what you meant as I was reading it! Someday when he gets time he's going to show me the finer points of straight pool.

When I was co-captain, My cap't and I would play (more like spar) a lot. He never gave a hard "look" Twas more like a blank stare. :) Then he would wanna change the game to one he thought he had a better chance at.

My latest "Look" moments

Last week I showed up on practice night at the homeroom. There is a guy there that I rarely see (2-3 times/yr) playing on a Diamond table. I took the table next to him and hit less than a rack before asking him to play me a few. Mind you he is a solid strong S/L7 (would be an e-z 8 anywhere else), He agreed to play suggesting 8 ball, then 9 ball, then 10 ball. Long story short; I got him 2 out of 3 on average in 8 ball. His 4th time racking I caught "the look" from him and got a 9-ball rack. :) (9-ball is his game) Things were back to normal (for him) as he was getting me 6/10.

We quit playing before we got to 10-ball. :wink:

Here is Neils & Efren playing in 2001. A 9-ball match, race to 15. Third rack, Neils is down 2-1, and Efren makes a thin cut to pot a carom into the corner. Truly, a niiiiiiice shot !!! Neils gives Efren,"the Look" Start @ 24:50,.... Neils "Looks" at @ 25:27
