watcha think about this league operator ?

in our area the lo has a program called " fill a bye and get free play".

for example you have 11 teams in a division. one team a week will have a bye. to avoid this our lo will let a team join that division and every one on that team plays free for that session. if no new teams form for next session this same team can continue filling that bye and continue playing for free.

it just so happens my lo plays on this same team. as a matter of fact he plays on teams in several divisions.

yes apa does allow lo's to play on teams...so does bcapl.and napa.

unlike bcapl apa does not allow lo's to play in any higher level other than regular sessions.

i think its great that lo's play on teams. it gives them the opportunity to interact with every body on a weekly basis. it also gives them to opportunity to watch every one that night and observe their true playing level every week....helps avoid sand bagging.

some say that if an lo is a high level player it gives teams he play on an unfair advantage in reaching play offs. i don't think it has that effect. the reason being is because if that particular team can advance through the play offs ....tri cups.. cities with out him then they sure could have reached the play offs with or with out him.

i am not sure what apa's rules are but bcapl allows their lo's to play on teams at the nationals and i think you are aware of what happened at the bcapl nationals last year with a certain team from arizona.

and no its froze... i am not trying to stir drama..just stating facts am
n:grin-square:swering a posters question.

Ok...I get it. He is doing it for the whole team....not just one individual. Good for him.
Our new LO still does byes....but he has in the bylaws that a team can play a player twice to avoid a forfeit. The catch is, the team with all players present gets to pick which one plays twice from the short team. a team cannot do it more then once in a night, not in two consecutive weeks, and not in the last two weeks of a session or in playoffs.
It works out ok. Many times I had to be the one to accept a forfeit, still have to pay my weekly fee, and didn't get to play. I hated that!

oh yea... apa also gives free play for a session if you bring a new member to apa.

and....every division has a division rep which also plays for free each session.

in napa league team captains play for free. they are also automaticaly eligible for nationals where they also play for free.

unlike the misconception that seems to run rampant on this forum ...not all leagues or lo's are strictly about how much money they can get out of you.

Our division rep plays free also.

the rules are exactly the same way here. our lo don't cut any body slack concerning rules.

yes we are allowed a replay and yes the other team picks who replays.

the whole amount for you weekly fee is due regardless if you have a full team or not.if those fees are not paid that week you forfiet all points earned that night. if you fail to pay all dues by the 2nd week your team is not allowed to play until the fees are paid.

all new members are given 2-3 weeks ....depending on what kinda mood the lo is in .. to py the yearly 25.00 fee. if that fee is not paid by the following week and you play that player you forfiet whatever points he won.

if you play him the week after that and its not paid you forfiet all points your entire team won that night.

let me use my double jeapordy team for example.

weekly fees are 50.00. its 5.00 a match for 8 ball times 5 matches =25.00. same for 9 ball.

we only have 4 players show its still 50.00 fee. no matter who plays twice the 4 of us to split the 50.00 fee. it would not be fair for the one who was picked twice to pay 20.00 and the other 3 to pay their normal 10.00.

Our division rep plays free also.

did i mention i have been playing napa for 2 years and been to the nationals twice and have never paid a dime to the league ?

last year i finished one round outa the money. if i had won just 1 more match they woulda been paying me to play in their league.:grin-square:

dang i woulda known how a pro feels if i had of won 1 more match .

Unless the rules have changed, there is nothing wrong with an LO playing in his own league. I could have, when I was an APA LO, but I was too busy.

Im not sure we have all the details, but this is/should be against apa rules. Unless he is paying fees for everyone on his team. And I assume he is a non playing member? LO's are not supposed to play in their own league area. Please elaborate and correct me where I'm wrong.

just about every thread that pops up on this forum concerning leagues...any league ...you have guys come on *****ing and moaning about their lo.

i start one praising my lo and you think i am trying to start drama ? not a chance.

maybe i worded it wrong or you took it wrong ...i dont know ? but i can assure you i am not a drama queen lol.

Fair enough !

Ours is a busy body also. He shows up at various locations to see what's happening and say hello. I've seen him more times in one session then our old LO in years! I like his proactive approach. Feels like he cares.

How is this a good thing? So, the other teams, who actually find teams, and show up, and pay their fees every week, but this team gets to play for free, not once, but two sessions in a row ??? Only in APA could that possibly happen and be tolerated.

1st and foremost... its good for the venue your home team is based out of. if you have a bye no one is there that night.

with this situation you can get your team that plays ...and pays on monday night to join a thur night division as a bye team and play for free.

it does not even have to be a team. as in my case i joined joined a team made up of players who play on other teams on other nights.

any one can do it. what is wrong with playing twice a week and paying once ?

you would not believe how many people in my area that play 4-5 nights a week on some regular teams and some bye teams.

heck i play 2 apa ... 1 i pay and 1 i don't

2 napa teams. was not paying for either as i was the captain of both. i disbanded 1 team and joined another last week so i pay for that night.

heck i even play on an in house money league for free . :grin-square:

we have a sponsor who pays the weekly fee. at the end of the session. the money he paid in comes out 1st and every one splits the remaining pot.

oh yea ... i forgot another angle . :grin-square:

i guess you could look at it as a pyramid scheme.

if another team joins you have another odd number. he allows another team to fill that bye making it an even number again. grows the division don't it ? more teams = more revenue for him and the venues they play out of also.

as for your last sentence... what if i said only in bcapl could it be tolerated for a lo to add an in eligible player on his personal team at the nationals ?

not trying to start any drama here its froze but i thought his obvious bash at apa deserved a retort to let rj know that no league is perfect.

Thank you for sharing. It seems people only write about the negative things in pool.

last night at my apa double jeapordy league i went up to my lo and informed him i was dropping off his tue night travel league team.he asked why ? i told him it was just a hassle trying to make it to the away games down south on my bike.

he asked if i can stay on the team and play at our home base which is only 10 minutes from home . i said yea i can do that...after i play in my money league down the road.

now before you guys go thinking ...yea he just wants your money when you do show i up. i been playing on his team for a year for free.

later my f/f goes up to him and asks for a couple new member cards. she tells him we are adding her son and his friend to our double jeapordy team. when she tells him his friend moved moved in with us and he was an adopted kid from russia who had problems at home and been staying with us for 2 months now.

she told him we were going to pay his membership dues and his weekly fees till he got a job the lo said he would cover both.

watcha think about that .?

i thought all lo's ...especially apa lo's were all greedy money grubbing asshats according to all of ya'll on here.

Our division rep plays free also.

This Division Rep doesn't play for free

Tho I don't have to pay the annual dues, nor do I have to pay to enter any singles board that I run, so it works out. I can also play in the Best of the Best tourney, even if I don't qualify for it that session. There are some other perks that I can't remember (and probably don't take advantage of).

And no, I'm not complaining, just moving the conversation along.

What I am doing is having fun, playing pool.

In the leagues I'm playing in, that would not fly. But, yes, in APA, I guess it really would not matter. I got to separate the "money" leagues from the other leagues, so yes, it really would not matter if the team played for free, the only one not getting paid is the LO and/or the APA, and the other teams are not losing anything..... so, please, carry on :)
