NAPA Nationals - No Diamond Tables

I just heard that Diamond tables will not be used for the NAPA nationals event next month in Atlanta. Are they waiting for the deadline to sign up to pass next week so that they don't miss out on any last-minute unsuspecting registrations? Such complete BS that I have to hear about this through the grapevine, months after I made reservations, took time off work, paid the entry fees and made travel arrangements. I won't make the same mistake next year.

So if I read your complaint correctly, you booked your reservation to play in a National Level tournament solely because they were going to have Diamond 7 ft tables? So, you don't want to test yourself against players from all over the country, you just want to travel across the country to play on Diamond 7ft tables.

Sounds to me like your priorities are different from mine. I want to play in national level tournaments to test myself and enjoy competition and conversation with fellow pool players.

I'm sure that you will do just fine playing on what ever table they have to play on. It seems there may be more than you've stated. Is there something deeper here?

If I'm travelling across the country to play in a tournament that touts using the best tables in the world, then yes...I do expect to be playing on the best tables in world. And yes, it does make a very big difference. Would I have signed up if they said from the onset that they would be played on Valleys? Perhaps. But if they did, and if I did, I would have been getting what I signed up and paid for. The rest of your condescending post not withstanding, yes I do expect to play on Diamonds when I signed up to do so. If, when I bought my Diamond table the installers delivered a Valley I would have been upset as well, fwiw.

One might infer that you fear you can't play your best game unless it's on a Diamond. :)

I wasn't being condescending. I just thought you were blowing things a bit out of proportion with your post, but then again people ***** and moan about anything that doesn't suit them these days. I guess it helps to vent.

If you still come to Atlanta this June, look me up. I'll buy you a beer if you want one.

Did they say they were going to have a particular brand of table and now they are saying they are not...........or did they not say what tables they will have and still haven't and you are reacting to a rumor?

i have been to the last 2 nationals. jpbs in nashville happens to have diamonds.

the southern classic in tunica happened to have diamonds. the thing is i dont recall ever seeing on the website that napa was furnishing diamond tables for the nationals...not saying they did not make arrangements last year but i never saw it advertised .

i have not seen any info on their website this year touting diamond tables were being supplied this year.

what lead you to believe there would be diamonds this year. ? i have not seen any info on their website and have not heard any rumors as to what tables would or would not be used.

bcapl is the only league that you can be assured of having diamonds at nationals ...due to mark griffins connection with diamond.

even with bcapl's connection with diamond does not guarantee you play on diamonds at state regionals and such.

with that being saod ...i dont understand why you are so upset ...at a rumor so far.

Local league operators have been touting it as a selling point to gain interest.
for example:

http://www.napaofnorthgeorgia.com/index.php/2014-national-tournament/faqs-about-nationals

That's not my league, but was told the same "80 Diamond bar boxes" that is stated there, so I'm sure that information didn't come from thin air. Whether advertised directly on the national site or not, the information was given to the LO's, who are representatives of the league, and who passed the information on to the players.

For some reason, I thought they were going to have Diamonds but I can't find any written reference to it. Maybe it's from people I know who went in previous years.

That said, I don't care what tables they have. I think it's going to be a lot of fun (assuming I don't have to play someone complaining about the brand of table. :))

I'm still on the fence about going to Nationals, as I just finished my first NAPA session, and qualified in 10-Ball. Can anyone answer these questions:

1) Do they separate player skill brackets (A, B, Master, etc), or is it possible for a 40 to play a 90?
2) About how deep in the field do they pay out?

As a note relevant to this thread, I thought I heard they were playing on Diamonds as well - but probably because that's what they had last year. I also prefer to play on Diamonds, just because I can rely on the table playing true more than I can rely on a Valley playing true.

Here is the info: http://napaleagues.com/page.php?page=nationals_registration_2014

It looks like they separate brackets. I don't know what the payouts will be like. You can see who has registered for what here: http://www.napaleagues.com/page.php?page=registered_players

10 ball has the fewest people signed up so far.

They had a napa tournament here. Couple of months ago and they were played on valley bb. Very few complained. It's all in who supply's the tables and how good they are taking care if. If you play that good on a Diamond you should have an advantage I think. A 4 won the tournament here but played more like a 6 or 7. We all know the rankings are not perfect but if you just go and have fun you will have a much better trip. Best of luck to you in the tournament.

1. different brackets based on your skill level.

2. don't quote me on this.... i believe they pay top 25% of your bracket. i may be entirely wrong ....when you get my age you will find that your memory aint what it use to be. i do think i read on the board last year it was 25% of the field.

last year i played in "b" bracket....s/l 50-69. if i remember correctly there were over 300 players in my bracket . i was put out in the 7th round. one round out of the money if i recall correctly.

a friend of mine won both 8 and 10 ball last year in the "a" bracket. again don't quote me lol.. i believe he won around 3,500 for 8 ball and 2,500 for 10 ball. more players in 8 ball hence more prize money.

I asked my L.O about the tables at nationals and she told me this: "We will be using championship valley panther tables"

Napa nationals

It makes a difference to the players which tables are used.

Wisconsin BCAPL just had their state tournament and their board decided to use Valley tables. We got blamed (also on an az thread) because CSI didn't supply Diamond tables.

It was not our decision to negotiate or determine what tables are used. Evidently their was a price difference the board was not willing to pay- that was caused by them wanting 100-120 tables plus the distance the trucks had to be driven.

Plenty of people were upset - and it is true, there is a LOT. Of difference between the two brands.

Just a little background on brands of tables.

This +1000.

In your clouded memory - can you guestimate the number of players?? The registered players list (posted above) looks like there's only 45 people signed up so far. (and only 16 in my bracket) That seems like it would have HUGE impact on the available money.

Also - the entry fee for the tournament is only $5, plus a $40 greens fee - to allow for open tables for practice and minis (between 9am and 10pm). I wonder how much of the prize money is being funded by the greens fees?
