I like it when a manufacturer of cue cases like John Barton takes issue with another competitor's quality because their good name is attempting to be trampled upon by others.

This story is about Aramith balls and while I know next to nothing about who they are talking about, but I like the idea that they stand up for their quality and make comparisons to their product and that of their competitors.

This type of competition can only lead to better products for the pool industry. It keeps competitors sharp. It makes their customers feel wanted and appreciated. It eventually instills pride in all concern. Sometimes it is difficult to take sharp criticism from your peers or competitors but in the end, we are all the better for it.

Interesting link. Soon I will be buying a good set of balls, to replace inexpensive imports that I have. One thing that has confused me is the many grades of balls that Aramith has, this helps explain that.

Gotta be Cyclops they are talking about.

Cyclop claims to be using the exact formula that was used for the original Brunswick Centennials (given to them by a retired employee), which supposedly contained 85% phenolic resin. Problem is, the originals were made by Hyatt in Albany, NY, not Aramith in Belgium.

So pretty much things made in China are cheaper quality? Who knew? Wow I never heard that before. I guess you get what you pay for, but in some instances it looks like you get even less than what you pay for. :shocked2:

Good to hear that I am not wasting money by having a set of Aramith Tournament Balls (wow, $363.00 list at Aramiths site) and a set of Centennials. Does anyone know if the Centennials are currently being made by Aramith or is that just a rumor?

Items made in China are not necessarily cheaper quality. JB Cases is a good example of that.

The purpose of the thread is really just to acknowledge that constructive and fair criticism helps businesses to work harder to improve the quality of their product, better distribution and improve their marketing.

After Hyatt closed, Saluc, the maker of Aramith brand took over producing/supplying Brunswick with balls for their Centennial brand.

I often heard complaints about the cheap belgian balls. Other than Saluc, who else in Belgium has the capacity and equipment?

it's a *****y move by Aramith

outside of weight tolerance which may or may not be true everything else is total bs

set up a verifiable series of tests, allow public rebuttal, and then call yourselve's kings

btw, i have super pros and love em

I'm not sure exactly which competitor they are talking about, but I have both Aramith and Cyclop balls. I like both sets, and prefer my Cyclops ONLY BECAUSE OF PRICE AND I LIKE THE FUNNY COLORS... I don't play well enough to notice the difference between the sets.

P.S. all my balls were within 1 gram of each other.

What's the better ball

My question is what is the better ball. A lot of people say the Centennial Balls are the best. But how can that be when in a centennial ball set the 6 ball is usually smaller than all the other balls? Wouldn't the most consistent size & weighted ball be the better ball hands down? ?

I prefer the Cyclop balls myself. My experience is less kicks, what seems to be a "crisper" hit, purer cut angles and they stay cleaner. I don't want to bash the Aramith sets because they are a very good ball too.

I prefer Aramith balls, not having any personal interest but simply as a player.
I recently tried the Cyclop balls, I'm really sceptical (at least) about how the Cyclop CB behaves...

I've never heard of the 6 ball being smaller in Centennial ball sets.
The way you stated this it sounds as if you have checked several sets for this.
Is that correct ?

Joey, I'm not saying all products that come from China (or Asia) are poor quality, but ALL Chinese manufacturer's completely ignore ALL other countries patent rights, and will copy anything from Iphones to billiard balls. Their economy is geared to producing ANYTHING cheaper, due to their monstous, (and usually grossly underpaid) work force ! ..They have purchased a few BMW's, Caddie's, and Volvo's, and are now preparing to flood the market, with THEIR 'version' (copy), for thousands less ! :frown:

I also believe you are a little lax, in pointing out the advantage this gives your buddy JB !.. Not to mention how quick he is to KNOCK or attack his competitor's product ! (ie; Jack Justis, and others) Call me foolish, but I will pay a little more, for the genuine article, if I think it helps maintain OUR standard of living, rather than support a socialist communist anarchy, that has absolutely no qualms, about industrial thievery ! :sorry:

PS..Have not been keeping up...Is Barton on 'time out' again ?..(anyone) :o

I think this discussion/debate kind of misses the whole point: the Cyclops balls are slicker and stay cleaner longer. They are also about 40% cheaper and have proven they are acceptable for national tournament play at both Derby and BCA.

I'm not saying they play better. They definitely play differently. Bank pool is a different game; because they're slicker certain banks, like the collision-induced reversals, don't even exist with these slick balls. Then again I've never heard of one skidding on contact either. On the other hand even with all the claimed technical deficiencies I think they play as good or better than other balls.

So the real question is what is Aramith's response to balls that stay cleaner longer?

So wait, it's ok for AZB to post this up on their "News" page of Aramith criticizing other ball manufacturers but their take down JB's thread of him criticizing another case maker?

What kind of BS move is that?

"3) Quality
Because the “competitors” admit that their resin is a blend, their "phenolic” statement can be misleading. Even within pure phenolic resins there are different grades and qualities. We have discovered that there are bubbles in the “competitors” balls as it is shown in the attached picture."

What "attached picture"? There wasn't one on that article.
