Just wondering on the legality and interest...

Lets say we had 50 people who would love to go to play in the Ultimate 10Ball but the cash was an issue... Would it be legal for all 50 to toss $20 a piece in the Kitty and draw a name of the person who would get to go play?

Just thinking it might be something we could do before each big tournament.. The winner would have to post about the experience and maybe do a recap for AZ news since we don't always get good info out of a tournament until well after it's over.....

I'd likely toss $20 in even tho I cannot attend and betting a few others would do the same.....

Sounds like an interesting idea. I think people local to the tournament location would have the best shot of attending. My employer has scheduled 13 of my 20 vacation days for me so I don't have much of a chance to plan a trip. It would be an awesome experience though fosho.

Or... we find 25 people willing to play a $40 mini and the winner gets an entry.

Yes it's legal for people to pool their money and purchase a good or service. However it's illegal to run a lottery or raffle in most states without a license. So, to me this would have to be couched in terms of a business deal with an ROI going back to the investors. Everyone would need to vote on how the selection would be made and that vote would need to be in favor of a blind draw.

I would be in on every single one of these that the community would put up. There needs to be a stipulation that the winner needs to accept and use the spot or allow it to go back into the pool OR perhaps the group could nominate acceptable alternates if the winner would like to allow one of them to play in their place.

100 people at $20 is 2k and that's enough to attend most events in the USA from within the USA. Make it so that this covers the tournament entry and expenses up to the amount generated. Keep accounting and make it so that other expenses are on the player, the group only pays for champagne when victorious.....

I am in for $20-$50 a tournament.

Ok 'Fro, so now we know how badly you want to go. Here's my 20, can you get 49 more?

I think the best option would be for you guys to send me down for the 10 Ball and the Tunica events. That way I can do all the grunt work for you. I can compete in all the events and compile the data necessary for everyone to discuss this matter further. I would also be able to create daily reports and keep the updates coming while they are fresh. Don't feel bad for me having to fade the brutal humidity of the Mississippi summer, I am willing to take one for the team this time.

Great idea, i assume people will jump on this if they get a return on their investment! say if the player nominated wins $10000, player splits 75% pay back to group (backers) and 25% for player?

its been said this is how "Pool" got its name, as people pooled their $$$ to put it in action hoping for bigger return than the post $$.

I dont think the "Pool" police are going to care about a thousand or 2 $ thats "pooled" together to put someone in a game, their are bigger fish to fry like Jay-Walking or parking tickets.....

The legal issue isn't so much the "pool" or lottery aspect; as mentioned earlier, it's too small for authorities to care.

The legal stuff starts to hit the fan if/when the parties don't perform as agreed: The player absconds with the $2000 and pays off bills instead of going to the tournament; or, the "escrow" won't release the funds because the player got in a car accident on the way to the tournament and never got to play; and so on.

It's the old unknown-unknowns that get you every time.

OK here is the deal... We have 3 months between now and the US Open... I have Paypal for Outsville.com and I think it would be a hoot for someone to play in the US Open from AZ who would not be able to play in it otherwise...... This year it is $1000 entry

If we can get 50 people to paypal $20 each we can do a drawing to send someone as the AZ horse.... If we get more than 50 we can use the extra funds to cover some of the travel.....

So that we know the cash gets used properly I will pay the entry fee directly and any travel money can only be picked up in Chesapeake at the tournament...... Yes I know the winner may have to come out of pocket to get up there but I like that more than the chance something comes up the player no shows and keeps the travel cash....

Granted I do not think that would happen but it could.....

What I am not sure of is if we should allow people to put in more than $20 to have more than one name in the hat.... And if that is allowed if there should be a limit to how many chances you can have... I tend to go with leaving it open and if you want to throw in $200 you get 10 chances....

I will be working so I can not play but I would toss in $40 towards the "pool" if enough people think this would be a cool idea....

If you win you will be expected to provide a running day to day commentary about the trip.. the tournament.. any side action gotten into or witnessed and a recap......

It's entertaining for people at home to read onsite posts so they feel more connected so you will be providing some value for your free ride =)

Who all thinks they may go off for the idea?????

Pay back? Wins?

People with those type of skills don't need to win a raffle to enter.

Nope the payback is they have to keep a thread alive for us.. This is more or less a free roll for someone to go do something that a lot of us wouldn't have a shot at doing otherwise..... Will be no expected return if they get into the money... Well aside from the fact they should become a gold member here on AZ if they aren't.....

I just think it would be neat to have daily updates and feedback from onsite from someone we all helped send... We would need to be funded and have a name drawn at the minimum 3 weeks before the tourney since lots of folks might have to put in for vacation but could if they won the draw....

Ohhh I also thing if we are doing this whoever wins needs to stay around for the whole thing... No 2 and done and driving back home... Just the way it should be.... Lots of action and always great company to be had in the hotel bar so we would want lots and lots of gossip and stories....

Greg Sullivan told me Tunica tournament was no more, unless some how I misunderstood him. It's a shame to was fun down their.

I would be in for this. I go to the derby every year and have wanted to go to the open but have yet to make it. Would be a great way to get there.

Would Barry allow snooping, pictures, videos, news feed without $$$ for him? I remember last year or two, he prevented a lady, not sure, she was a reporter or free lancer! something from taking pictures? and kicked her out (not 100% sure the story)

The rumor is that the entire casino complex is shutting down this summer, anyone heard anything on this?

I'm in. and yes, folks should be able to buy as many as they want... just like any other prize raffle. They risk more so they should get more.

My son was suppose to sell 50 tickets at $10 each for his travel baseball team...well, I just bought them all cause I'd rather him practice then wasting his time going door to door for days on end to sell them... I just figured it was part of the cost to play and didn't really expect him to sell them...

And no, I didn't win any of the prizes, not even the small ones :( So, y'all know I'm do !!!!!!
