The idea was good but the execution was bad.
I don't think too many pool room owners are worried about stepping up to do much for Barry.
Realistically, how many owners in the country even know him or give a dam about the Open? Then the ones that do aren't looking to have a tournament in their own place where they'll most likely lose money just to award an entry in a tournament where the winner still has to pay all the other expenses to go.
It's been losing its pizzazz for a long time now, even his own daughter has moved on following her brothers foot steps out the door.
The days of a smaller tournament and gambling at the pool room all night and the drinking/drugs/casino parties at Barry's house are long gone. You can lose money on one thing if you're more than making it up on another thing.
It became an expensive week for players, who by the looks of it don't want to deal with any of the headaches regarding the tournament themselves anymore.
Die hard spectators not included, they're not looking to make anything, just spend their set amount and make a little vacation out of it watching pool.
It's a shame because it could have an awesome thing thing year after year if he didn't implode all the time.
