At least it sure looked like it.
The Score was 19 -18 Sky in the final and Shane was facing a rather easy-to-make 1 ball in the top right corner but it was a cut in and the 2 ball was up near the head rail left corner pocket so he had two choices on how he could shoot it.
1. make the cut and try to come down and back the long table hoping to avoid all of the traffic on the table. There was a lane but it would have to be precise - a very tough shot.
2. Play the cut with inside english at pocket speed to keep whitey up on the top half of the table with some angle to shoot the 2 off the head rail next. Clearly this was the bettwr % play.
Shane missed the 1 ball and it looked so much like what I'm guilty of sometimes. I should know better. For SVB to do this, if he in fact did, is shocking. I'm talking about not cinching the relativly east 1 ball.
It looked to me like he was giving so much attention to the position aspect of the shot while not quite giving potting the 1 ball its due, that these, combined with the inside english needed seemed to be a recipe for disaster.
I wish we still had the wei table to illustrate this shot.
What other table illustrators are being used these days.
Missing that 1b was the nail in Shane's coffin.
And hell yeah, the kid, Sky, is a machine. Hope you all caught the 1 ball shot he made in another rack where it looked like all he had was an edge to feather for a safety attempt that turned out to be a powerful straightback from such an awkward spot, and oh yeah, with perfect shape left on the 2.
Congrats to this young man who we'll likely be hearing from for a l-o-n-g time to come.
best,
