What are people's thoughts on how AZB should progress over the next few years?

Also, what is AZB actually for? What is its role to you?

AzBilliards should be about the free exchange of information and opinion with almost zero censorship or editorial discretion from the ownership. Not saying that rules of common decency and behavior shouldn't be enforced, only that the topics/content themselves should not be censored--ever. Way too much good old boys club "protect anyone in the billiard industry from any scrutiny" mentality IMO. Topics should never be removed or locked, ever, but rules of decent posting behavior should be enforced.

i am a frequent public forum user who enjoys reading and writing on various websites like sports, fishing, politics, reddit etc... i am relatively new to this community, but here are some things i have picked up on. so this is just my honest opinion

i think the strengths of this website are: connecting the international pool community together, great tips and knowledgeable players who post information on the game itself, good news feed of various cue sport related topics, constant updates on players and tournament results, and a lot of information of players and pool history that may have never been recorded on camera.

weaknesses of this website are: to do this i will make a comparison that ive noticed: it feels as though im reading a sports team forum, in which many of the fan base/users are disillusioned and jaded by their team. in other words, some of the users give off a negative vibe and i think this is a reflection of the current status of pool in america.

JMHO- but i read this website a lot so, i think in all there is more definitely more good than bad.

there are not that many sports forums where you will see world champions and professional players logging onto the forum and talking to the public. i think this is something that surprised me the most when i first logged onto this forum. its probably one of the most appealing aspects of this forum. unfortunately they are not held in such high regard by some people.

Very interesting comparison re disillusioned and jaded. How can this be changed?

AZB has in the last year or two lost a lot of regular members who were contributors, and shared a lot of great information. These people still come, look, but seldom post any more.

Now it seem like Trolls, and others who seem intent on hijacking almost every thread, have taken over the forum.

IMHO the Forum is heading to the ground like a single engine aircraft with a major mechanical failure.

as a previous post stated "... complain and disagree ... about anything pool related ...",

just me spitballing but this is not the way i would like to see AZ heading. it is part of AZ but complaining and disagreeing shouldn't be what AZ is all about.

i personally enjoy the back and forth but i also enjoy the sharing of different ideas and the occassional satire and sarcasam that truly reflect what freedom of speech is really all about.

so haters don't hate all the time. peek around and examine a post that you "hate" and you might find more common ground than you originally thought. of course that would mean respect for everyone's posts, including yours.

I'd really like a feature that would allow me to "follow" certain AZ members. So I could easily see all of their posts.

There is a search feature today, but it requires 20 searches if you want to follow 20 members.

I fell that AZB mirrors society, and that's not necessarily in a good way.

Respect and decency is rare nowadays.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy banter. I enjoy folks mixing it up a little. What I don't enjoy is the nastiness-for-nastiness-sake, the blasting away, the non-stop sniping. And that is a reflection of how people treat each other these days, especially from behind a keyboard.

Too much is too much. Too many not only cross the line, they obliterate the line.

It takes away from the enjoyment of the site.

The genie is out of the bottle, it ain't going back in, so we might as well pick our spots and enjoy those.

By the time we get a million people on here arguing about what's wrong with pool......
.......pool gonna start looking GOOD!!!!!
:happydance:

To easily find MemberX's most recent 1,000 posts (without going through the Search function):

• Go to any post by MemberX;
• Click on the MemberX screen name at the upper left of the post;
• Click on "Find all posts by MemberX" on the drop-down list.

(You probably knew this, jeffj2h, and it is not exactly what you are looking for, but I mention it just to make sure all readers are aware of it.)

Not in any society I'm a part of.

AZB and most online forums have become the bastion of and safe haven of those who wouldn't last 2 minutes acting like that in real life, one on one.

On the forums those are 4 of 5 easy whereas I don't run into 1 in 10 like that in person at a pool hall or otherwise.

And thus the content and quality has suffered dramatically. I remember the in depth and complex discussions that used to go on here daily, of course with the occasional newb stuff tossed in as to be expected, but still.

Right now there is a 6 page (and growing still) thread going on debating options of a 3 ball runout with ball in hand on a wide open table. Seriously? (Not trying to call anyone out, just using it as an example)

Hard to imagine how much lower the quality of content could possibly go....

When I first joined I got the feeling this forum had good guidance, tips, reviews and information for a person like me getting back into playing pool. I found helpful information and eventually I started to learn more and could give some of my experience back with reviews and product experience and some feed back to newer members.

Lately I've disconnected from the forum because it has become more opinionated and member bashing has become acceptable. Its gotten to the point that I really just come here for the sales section and have kind of shut off the rest of the forum. I'll read a few threads here and there, but don't enjoy it as much as I used to do the preciously mentioned issues.

Billiards is becoming more of a niche market and hobby. There isn't any televised matches anymore. The leagues are starting to become less fun and pool overall is becoming more extinct. I see it in about ten more years to be a thing of the past. The up and coming cue makers can't find a market, the collectors are becoming less and less and the sport doesn't have a following it once did.

Its a shame. I love the sport.

for one they shouldn't allow people to start threads asking how their website should be run. it takes alot of time and effort and money to run a website and you are out of place for suggesting how it should change. I get you mean well, but its not your say, sry. I come and feed my obsession that is pool, sometimes I argue, sometimes I agree and sometimes I Love/hate this website, but I deal with what it is at the moment. most of us work full time and have families and we come here to stay in touch with the pool world. I hate the cue snobs, but I love cues and the gallery forum. Ask the cuemaker is always helpful, main forum is also helpful and always entertaining. the NPR forum helps remind me that yes, people are still racist hateful bigots, churchill was right when he said the best argument against democracy is to have a five minute conversation with the average voter and yes, I am smarter than I give myself credit for. When I get tired of the pettiness I stay away, when I'm in the mood I come by. just my opinion. wrong or right it is what I feel. I love the game and the people in it, it's played by crooks, thiefs, con artists, brilliant but disturbed men, doctors, lawyers, carpenters, garbage men and everything inbetween, you'll never have a dull moment, be it on the table or beside it.

Disagree 100%

Defamation should not be allowed in any form. Making a thread that defames another member, especially an industry member or a professional player, should be immediately pulled.

If you think that there is a good old boys club at work here you have 100% incorrectly assessed how this forum operates.

The brutality with which some industry members have been attacked, which is still on display, is appalling. Brutality which has not been censored or removed.

AZB is actually www.azbilliards.com A wesbite dedicated to preserving results of pool events and ongoing news about the world of pool. The forums are a part of AZB to discuss pool related topics.

Your question is how should the forums progress.

My thought is that it should be a welcome place for anyone to discuss pool, it should be a place where pros and industry leaders and industry newbies feel comfortable and safe interacting with the fan base.

Trolls and "mean" people should be shown the door. If your content is constantly destructively critical and antagonistic then adios. Either contribute meaningfully with constructive criticism and dialog or go away.

That's how I feel about it.

AZB forums to me is my lifeline to pool around the world, it is my virtual pool hall when I am not in the actual pool hall. It is a community of pool fans that I can commune with, share stories, share experiences, AND also present my work to since I happen to be in the business. it's much more than simply a place to sell stuff to me.

Otherwise I would confine my participation to JUST selling stuff.
