to all you apa bashers...and all league haters also

Whoa there mister! Cheat to win the tourney? I WAS NEW TO THE APA!! How was I cheating for Christ's sake? My handicap was changed to a "7" after 1 match and remained there the rest of my time with the APA.
By the way, I finished 2nd in the tourney to a guy who played better than me and was ranked a "5."
At the time, this incident bothered me a little but I shrugged it off. As time went on, though, I began to see the unscrupulousness of that league. And as situation after situation piled up I began to form what is now my opinion.

I could fill many pages with my negative APA experiences, but I'm not going to do that. It seems most people have seen and experienced similar situations and have their reasons for not playing APA. I know there are a few die hard supporters and that's great, too, I guess. It's good to see, though, that most have graduated to "big boy pool" whether they gamble or not. They are the ones who have come to realize their game improves much more quickly and greater when they don't play with a handicap!

well the lo must have been right raising you to a 7 if that is where you stayed.

what are you insinuating about a " 5 " beating you ? i am a 5 and have beat 7's before....heck i even beat 2 8's once apiece in 9 ball.:grin-square: no i am not a sandbagger. i have had 3's beat me and no they are not sandbaggers either.

i could fill pages whith bullshit in bcapl ...napa...and various money leagues also. that is my point in this thread. this crap aint exclusive to apa like ya'll make it out to be.

big boy pool ? apa has that also...it is called masters. no handicap race to 7. winner of lag chooses to play 8 or 9 ball 1st. loser of lag breaks 1st. after whoever wins 5 racks in the 1st format you switch over to the other format until one of you wins 7 racks.

push outs allowed in 9 ball and jump cues are allowed. no slop shots either. sounds like big boy pool compared to bcapl round 8 ball where you play for points.

if that aint big boy enough for you then try your hand at apa us amateurs. no handicap 9 ball on the big table. push outs and jump cues allowed. if you dont play damn near pro speed you aint got a chance in making it to the final round.

apa players having no gamble is a myth.....around here any ways.

apa 7 playing 20.00 racks 9 ball. seen him take down 400.00 one night.

2 apa players playing call shot 8 ball. race to 10 with one getting 2 on the wire . 800.00 matchup.

2 apa players race to 10 ten ball for 1,000.00.

my point is you should not bash an entire organization based on a local incendent here or there.

The apa is very much like pro wrestling...

They pretend to be an organization that cares about creating and governing competition...but they don't.

It's all an act...Like a pro wrestling match that has a referee. (The referee isn't there to really ref the match...but to be an actor and portraying someone ref'ing a match.)

And this is a great analogy to what the apa is. It's fake...all of it's fake.

The APA doesn't care about getting rid of manipulative idiots (the captains often) who want to 'play' the system to get to vegas (which is kind of sad considering, it's a crap vacation in a crap part of the strip in 110 plus degree weather, which there is really nothing to be won). They turn a blind eye to the apa lawyers and these captains because they are the ones bringing in the $...

i was gonna respond until i saw your name lol.:grin-square:

Geez! You guys make it sound like I plotted and planned this whole. Tournament situation! I was BRAND F*CKING NEW to the APA! I thought that was the way it worked. My point to all that was not the the tournament. My point was my first interaction with an APA captain was a whiney, crybaby, well-known sandbagger himself. It just seems unethical for a team captain to be able to call the LO and get someone's handicap raised because he believes he knows how someone plays. In my case, he was right. I was probably the best or 2nd best player in that particular league. Put me in a bigger city and I would have been more accurately rated.
I'm not asking the APA to change their ridiculous rules. I just choose not to participate and have not participated in about 15 years now. As far as "Masters," that's a nice attempt on their part, but as far as I'm concerned it still falls under the same governing body.
I'm content to play in tournaments with no handicaps or play money matches with other players when and where I want without having to commit to league and be somewhere at some certain time. Yes, it's been said and I agree, I'm not much of a team player. I tried a league again last year (BCA) and dropped off after 2 sessions. Why? Because of the politics and sandbagging by others on my own team!
Some folks fit well into the league system and some do not. I know I am one who does not so I have chosen to stay away from league play. I can live with that decision...

What??? People sandbag outside of APA?

Heresy!

:p

Where I'm at, when its league night, it looks like the local mobile home community emptied out into the pool hall.....with the expected level of character, integrity, and antics....(I think most league players should be tested for, and then treated for ADD)....There is a fairly good size group of solid players who do their best to avoid the pool hall on league nights (mon, wed, thurs I dont want to be anywhere near the place)....I think anyplace thats want to do leagues should keep the 8' and 9' tables well seperated, or expect their 9' business to disappear on league nights.

Sounds like you live in a trashy area then, with all the trailer park residents hanging around.

i agree, you can't blame the whole, for the faults of the few.

so i just ran the numbers for our league, where the issues lie with the LO:

6 leagues X
10 teams/league X
5 players/team X
$10/game X
9 weeks/session = $27000
X 2 (8B & 9B) = $54000
/ 2 monthly income = $27000

47% prize money - $12700
20% corporate - $5400
33% LO & "Vegas fund" - $8900

per month.

"to all you apa bashers...and all league haters also"

I hate them and bash them every chance I get.

miscrewed89,

Your intentions are clear. You are complaining about something that happened 15 years ago? And when you tried to enter as a 4, when you knew you were much better, was completely unethical. You, and ones like you, are the problem with the apa ( and other leagues). Its the apa (and other leagues) that have to deal with players like you. If you think about it, LO's don't make enough!

Well you thought wrong. So now why is it a problem? Everything around the APA is for teams. You entered a team league as a '4' and as such since you didn't have time to even establish yourself as a member. You're now complaining? Talk about idiocy.

I'm glad the resounding theme in all of these threads boils down to one thing. League operators, from the vocal movement on AZB, should be required to work for free. Having our money pay people's salaries seems to be a problem.

Cheap ass ****s.

I like the APA. I might like another league more but how would I know we only have apa here in town and I have never played anything else. I went to nationals this year my 8 ball team won 6 and lost 1. 33rd place we were psyched. Going in we figured we had no chance with only 5 guys. Anyway I bet most leagues deal with the same issues and I bet most league haters are pretty grouchy around the table in general not just about league.

If only the APA cared as much about the bangers as they care about the bangers' money! If only they cared about the players who improved instead of scheming for ways to get those players' money as well! If only they kept closer tabs on their league operators and listened to the complaints of the league members when an operator's methods or ethics come into question!

Yes, it is true the APA attracts newcomers to the sport. For that, I suppose, we owe them a small tip of the hat. But, as long as they have league operators driving around in German luxury cars, meeting with their handpicked group of minions raising and lowering handicaps on a whim, fixing city tournaments so that their favorite bars have the best chance to win the Vegas trip, and then have teams who win the Vegas trip but can't afford to go because it's not really a Vegas trip, as long as the politics of league override the playing of the game, in my opinion the APA (Anti-Pooplayers-Association) will suck! They have proven time and again that they are all about the money!

Again, this is my opinion. If you like the APA, well have at it. I have just simply seen and experienced enough of the aforementioned occurrences to not want to ever be involved with them again!

Their a business not a charity organization , so of corse there all about the money ,,
Knowing a few of the LO 2 of them the biggest accounts in the country ,, neither drives a German luxury car. and not to many people I know work as hard as they do
It's pretty simple don't like it don't play plain and simple
I was lucky enough to make it to Vegas on a Masters team you would be very surprised at some of the great players in that league many players that win regional tours that play at or near pro level

The APA is good for selling lots of cheap cues and making bars some drink money.

That is not really a way to grow pool.

Maybe 10% of the APA players know what a good player looks like, or what rules the pro players play by or can name more than 2 pros, or have ever seen or heard of a TAR match or have gone to see a pro tournament. It's like saying that illegal immigrants are a good way to grow the US population.

I know there were many posts on here how there were free to attend pro events during huge league yearly tournaments and the stands were pretty much empty. That is not helping pool, it's helping the league owners and also helping McDermott sell overseas made cues to those players. I can't say that is all bad, it's certainly good for the companies involved, but it does not help pool as a sport. For anyone to say that the leagues bring in a 100,000 players into the sport we need to see 100,000 people viewing the free live streams when SVB plays Efren and getting 10,000 people paying TAR $20 to watch 2-3 days of one on one action.

I just played a few games with some APA players at a bar. I was totally messing with them yet was able to win every game for about an hour before I left. When I had to go, one of them said "you are actually not that bad do you ever play for money" LOL I was very nice and said "no" and I also made sure that I properly admired his game how close they all came to winning that i just got lucky and what a great cue he had. He had a lower end McDermott that he said his dad paid $500 for. It was a stick you can get for maybe $250 a basic G shaft model. Nice cue but he probably had no idea what it really was as far as the shaft technology or construction goes. That is what the APA and other league players give us.

Let's get one thing clear. I am not complaining about something that happened 15 years ago! I am relating an experience. Also, male players enter the league as a "4" and then go up or down from there. That's the way it works. I was not scamming, scheming or sandbagging in any way. I played one match and beat the guy 3-0. Like I said before, that incident only raised a red flag as it was my first experience in the APA. The many, many other negative experiences and observations are what drove me to form what is now my opinion of the APA.
Again, maybe these practices are exclusive to the Chattanooga area APA. I don't know. I found out real quick that the APA was not for me. Some like it, some don't. Just like American politics, we could argue our points and opinions until we are blue in the face, but at the end of it all we will still have our own opinion.
That is all you will hear from me on this topic. I'm not trying to make enemies here. We all have a common interest and passion for this game.

I don't know what kind of players you have in your area , but there many many players who play for cash ,, I saw one couple yrs ago playing 1k sets with Kirkwood in fact Skylar Woodward was there playing in a team event think he knows anything about pool ,, at 10 % of 250 k is 25k that's a whole lot of players

I've never played APA but I enjoy my BCA league. But your post here seems to confirm exactly what the original poster was talking about. Basically you're saying "there are some guys in APA who aren't as into pool as me." If you've got some ideas for how the amateur leagues could do more to promote pool, we'd all like to hear it. If you're just going to complain that there are pool players out there who aren't as good as you, aren't as knowledgeable about pool as you, and have less awesome cues than you, that doesn't seem to me to be particularly useful.

Because the APA doesn't give two shits about enforcing any of their rules. Why make rules that no body is allowed to enforce unless a referee is watching the match. The APA doesn't teach good sportsmanship or even help players get better. The APA is a deigned money vacuum. Nothing good comes from the APA.

Wanna know why I hate the APA. Because when the rules clearly state that when you call for a hit to be watched and your opponent doesn't allow the hit to be watched. Even though it was called for and they admit hearing such call, no foul is able to be called. You have to write them up. To much politics protecting their money to allow any real pool or respect to be had:

What's "write them up?"
