Barry took everyone's suggestions into consideration.......

After many conversations with Barry, I'm confident that all will go well at this year's U.S. Open. As a result I've agreed to return as his tournament director. See you in Norfolk!

I can't see any change yet. 55 players to go to fill the field and the change will/might happen at the END of the tournament. Is 74k added with 128 players or no matter how many...like if only 100 sign up...how much then? Johnnyt

He had to add the 72 to get the WPA sanctioning so it has to be added no matter how many enter. This is my understanding anyway.

Hey you've got Karl Boyes incorrectly listed as from USA. (And Darren Appleton incorrectly listed as from England :) .)

Nice group of players so far. Only 56 more to go. No Japan, Tiawan, or China so far. As it stands now @ 56 players more to make 128, Barry would have add another 40k to make up the added purse. Johnnyt

170,000.00 is the total purse estimate with a full field but if there are less than 128, Barry is not adding more money to make the total $170K. He is promising to add $74K. Period. The total purse will be $74K plus however many players times $750.

Roberta?

But if the purse is less it won't be sanctioned and that wouldn't be right charging $750 to players that come for those points. Johnnyt

I think the $72K added is what is necessary to gain sanctioning. If the Players dont show up to play for it-that isn't Barry's fault. On another point the fewer players that show up, the bigger percentage of 'free money' (the added) they are playing for as opposed to playing for each others money..

Wonder how many signed up over the weekend? Depending how many did sign over the weekend, they need to average about 2 players a day until 10/13 to sign up, to have 128. Johnnyt

US Open

If the US Open is a WPA sanctioned event,-why can't we break from the side rail? Just like all other WPA events allow to. And further more, -why can we use a template rack, just like the whole world uses?

I think the tournament would be a lot more interesting this way, instead of watching all the rack mechanics operate their ugly cut breaks, and tricks

It's bad enough we are playing 9Ball instead of 10Ball, and that we are playing slop counts

Just opinion,

Respectfully,

Marc

It is after all called the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship and it's been going on since before anyone even played 10-Ball. So wouldn't it be weird to play 10-Ball.
Slop has always counted in 9-Ball.

People can still rig the rack using templates.

A better question would have been, why can't there be a neutral racker/ref for every table like other WPA sanctioned events?
