FORMAT/RULES http://www.matchroompool.com/news/a...qk36nixdndvo/title/world-cup-of-pool---format

32 x 2-man national teams, scotch doubles format, winner breaks.

First and Seconds Rounds: races to 7;
Quarters and Semi-Finals: Races to 9;
The Final: Race to 10.

SHOT CLOCK RULES

Under the shot clock rules, each player will have up to 30 seconds to complete each shot.

A dedicated tournament official will operate the clock and an audible five-second count down will commence once the player has reached 25 seconds.

The clock will start when the last moving ball on the table comes to rest.

Failure to play a shot in the allocated time will result in loss of visit and cue ball in hand to the incoming player.

There are two exceptions to this.

After the break shot, a player can take a maximum of 60 seconds to appraise the table. The clock will start after the completion of the first shot in open play. A push out does not count as the first shot.

In both singles and double matches, each side is allowed one 30 second extension per rack. This can be called at anytime within the initial 30 seconds.

The timekeeper will then allow the original 30 seconds to expire and then restart the clock to allow another 30 seconds. This will serve the purpose of extending the shot to one minute.

All players will make this known by audibly calling 'extension' to the referee. The referee, who will be miked up at all times, will then call 'extension' to the timekeeper.

In addition, the referee can stop the clock. This is in the event of any extraordinary occurrence, for example, a player playing out of turn in the doubles matches.

Having the cue ball cleaned or calling for a rest / mechanical bridge will be part of the 30 seconds.

The match will then recommence with the referee stating 'start the clock'. The clock will not be reset; rather it will continue from when it was stopped. This is at the referee's discretion.

I see Netherlands got 2nd best odds-on to win but no mention of who's on it nor any further mention of it in match-ups.

This is always a great event. I'm sure that 2014 will be no exception.

PS Watch out for Poland, a longshot that may travel under the radar but is quite capable.

First match- Indonesia on verge of upsetting Greece. was leading 5-2 at one stage but Greece caught up and now 4-5 behind and they are breaking
Nick Eko and Kazakis trying to avoid 1st round exit.

Livestream at http://www.pool.livesport.tv pretty good, awesome quality
But does not work with ipad/iphone LOL

The 30 second shot clock is adding intense pressure on both sides, they have to use their one extension (per rack) wisely...

The Greeks will get to play another day, winning their hill-hill match against the Indonesians.

The Indonesians blew it, It was theirs for the taking, opting to use inside english on the 4 ball to straighten out the path of the CB to the next object ball, instead of using outside english and going 2 rails which was the easier shot...

Afternoon session over
Austria looking strong with big 7-2 thrashing of Portugal.

RESULTS
Greece (13) 7-6 Indonesia
Italy (16) 4-7 France
Austria (11) 7-2 Portugal

Here is commentary of the completed afternoon matches

Incredible error by Japan. They forgot to call time extension and gave BIH to Russia to run out and lead 2-1
I have never seen such time extension error before . Probably they are not used to shorter 30 sec or something but this error may cost them match. This is winner break and Stepanov/Chinakov are breaking pretty well

Both Russia and Japan are messing up big... Is this bank pool??

I CANT WAIT to see Earl and Shane go to work though. Try to share the streaming links with any groups or friends who might be interested!!!!

I was rooting for Japan, but now that it's over I'm kind of glad that Russia won. I think Japan would have been a tougher match for USA. Of course we have to beat Croatia first.

what a match
see saw match with Russia leading most of way and Japan making comeback to get to hill first
Final hill hill rack was crazy...Tanaka the villain who forgot to call time extension earlier made probably shot of the day so far.. a bank into short rail to pot object ball into side pocket. Then Tanaka bad position for his partner who missed the bank for Russia to run out:D

Yeah, pretty awful stuff from both Russia and Japan, and it's hard to imagine Russia doing much in this event after that effort.

On the other hand, the commentators get an A+ form me. They are so entertaining. After a great shot, one of them said, "Russia cooking with gas!"

Any one know where the Korean team is? cos they didnt show up for their match vs Finland
They are down 0-5 and about to be whitewashed. In rack 5, they committed ridiculous error of pushing to a scratch
They should have send Ga Young Kim and Yu Ram Cha instead. They should win some matches with their charms :D
