Today a cue arrived that I purchased on eBay, I bought it from a seller with a good rating who did not have any other billiards related things for sale. I bought it hoping it was a McDermott D-23. The picture was blurry and was listed as an unkown pool cue. When it arrived I could see right away it was a fake. From the picture I saw things didn't look right but I figured its an older cue so the black butt cap could have been put on after the original white one broke. Same with the joint, ss could have been put on as a replacement if it happened to be ss, the picture was hard to tell. So any way here it is.

For the price it was worth a shot but it still remains that if its to good to be true it probably is. Also if you like oddities this baby is for sale.
 
I can see some fuzzy stuff which I think is a case and some wood looking stuff which I must be a cue from what you are writing about.

You may want to resize the pictures a bit and maybe not take just close up shots.

I know nothing about resizing pictures. Some time there huge other times there just right

Cues are a dime a dozen If there is even a doubt just pass.
 
I believe ebay has a policy about selling fakes. If the seller advertised the cue to be something that it is not I would contact the seller and ask for a refund. You said he/she has good rep, that's probably important to them. Do not leave feedback until you get a response. If the seller refuses I'd file a claim with ebay after leaving negative feedback.

The key here is how it was advertised.
 
They never claimed it was a mcdermott or a d23 so ill leave it alone. I was actually kind of impressed because I would not have figured this cue was a Target for being faked.
 
Dude, how about resizing this......golly........not everybody has a 300" computer screen.

Nothing wrong with this. You win some you lose some. I've scored plenty of nice Tru-Balance and early Brunswick house cues from lots purchased on ebay. I've also had my fair share of painted points and broomstick cues.

Can't control what people list and what they do and don't know. Ultimately its buyer beware because you can't trust anything but your own best judgement.
 
^^ you pretty much hit the nail on the head except I only hoped. I knew if it was legitimately I would be putty quite a bit of money in it so it would be original... They wanted 60 + shipping but I got it for 50 shipped. I recently got a meucci original for 5 bucks from an antique dealer so I hoped to get lucky again.
 
Every time I have seen anything on ebay that suggests it's something without saying what it is, it's 99% NOT what you think it may be. Golly Gee there, it kinda looks like a $3,000 SouthWest, but you know I am not sure and I'm not an expert and it may have markings but I don't think it may be the right thing, you can bid on it but I am not saying what it is, it may be something pricy and my friends said it's worth a gagillion dollars.

You may want to learn about picture sizes. A typical screen is maybe 1280x1024 these days or so, 1440x900 is common, 1920x1080. If the picture is larger than those, it won't fit on the screen. Making the pics 800x600 is safe.

Consider it a cheap lesson, a very cheap lesson, and move on. There are many look alike imports out there and seller's who know nothing about cues. The cue is not exactly a fake, it's a decal cue where the design was lifted from a real design. There are similar Meucci gamblers and many other designs that are mass production K-Mart type of cues.

Many of the larger collectors have also made mistakes that cost them in the thousands. There are always those times when you roll the dice. When you win it feels great and when you lose, it sucks. Just move on and the sooner you can laugh about it, the better off you are.

There is some fun in just rolling the dice too! It can be very entertaining digging up a find when it works out.

By the way, you can still put a little red dot on the buttcap and tell everyone it came from a pawn shop in Texas and you have no idea who made it...
