Cracked OB ferrule an shaft

If you think that shaft has value I am sure the op is in the selling mood.

Was the McDermott a LD shaft ? Honestly I don't see a reasonable repair on that shaft and expect it to play anything like a OB classic.

I also won a tournament with a delaminated black dot meucci, but never again.
Had another friend who is a AZB member who had his cue duct taped together too.

John I still don't think that shaft is repairable.

I have no idea. Just relating my experience. Glue and pressure works miracles

Never bang my cue under any circumstance. Especially after reading the book about mental side of the game. :) did I tell you im a funny guy?

Shane Sinnott, Director of Sales & Marketing, posted a response to your post.Have you contacted him as of yet? I see you didn't reply to his post.

Oh, and a tip came off of a break shaft? Better throw that one in the trash too, while you are at it (*)

(*) Please let me know which trash can you throw it in so I can go pick it up and put on a new tip

On a more serious note, OB has been one of the best companies I've ever known for being reasonable on warranty claims and taking care of customers, so this thread is a joke. "Waaaaah look at this, probably isn't even covered by warranty, I won't even ask..."

Get real. As someone who has had this sort of thing happen several times, it's perfectly natural to feel thoroughly pissed off about it.

By the way, here is unedited picture. I did not clean prior to taking this shot. First one I used my phone to enchance the details. I guess overcooked a little. Must agree its not that dirty, no? Anyway I use glove so it doesnt stick to my hand, therefore it just dont bother me if shaft has some natural blueing.

The original photo is stunning.

Easy Fix.......

I agree! This is a real easy fix.

This shaft can be fixed and no one would ever known it was cracked.

Glue is stronger than wood........

Better buy a few hose clamps for this repair and something that will inject the glue.

I bet that cues hit sounds like shit now . gives me the shutters..

I was a big engine mechanic most my life. Some of the push tubes were 2 or 3 feet long and hollow..
The way we tested these push tubes to see if they are cracked or not was to throw them on the floor one at a time.
If the push tube doesn't ring and sounds like a dead thud then its cracked .

Every time I stroke a Laminated LD shaft it reminds me of one of those push tubes
that are cracked and then I go nuts looking at the ferrule or tapping the shaft to see if I can where the crack is.

Anyway I like shooting pool and not worrying about my equipment.

And that's pretty cool you won with a broken cue.

One thing the OP did do was take one hell of a photograph of that crack,,

The unedited photo looks a lot better, although I would guess that the phone picture accentuated the small flaws present and didn't create them altogether.
Still, I give credit for the shaft looking like it was looked after better than I thought. The original looked like it doubled as a toilet plunger handle.

Shaft failure

This type of damage would require superhuman force unless you accidently broke without the tip being installed.......you said the tip flew off.

This shaft has had one hell of a life.

I am quite a human after all. Never hit without a tip. Im 5'6, 70k with a fastest break of 22m/h. :)

Okay so it's happened to you several times. When it happened did you...

1) Check if it was covered by warranty and have it replaced

or did you:

1) Whine that it wouldn't be covered by warranty
2) Ignore everyone's suggestions that it probably is, and to check with OB
3) Ignore replies from an OB Cues representative
4) After all that, still talk about throwing the shaft in the trash

Pretty sure the guy smacked the crap out of his shaft, impact damage, and knows it won't be covered under warranty for that reason. His own photos seem to back that theory.

Anyway, I'll take your "get real" advice under consideration for next time :P

Will state it again: never hit shaft against anything in my life. Instead I hit a lot of dead center stun/stop shots as hard as I could.

Why? That would be.....for the lack of a better word.....stupid. When would that "hard as you can stun shot", ever come up in a game? Not trying to be an ass, but wow! Why?
