This is my first season in this 9 ball league and I joined a team where I knew a couple of the guys. I got off to a really bad start, handicapped at 6 I lost 2 matches badly to low handicaps and had 2 matches where I lost by just a couple balls (it goes by pts here).
So sitting at a record of 0-4 a "teammate" tells me that if I lose by 10 balls or more ill drop to a 5, and I should dump so that I can start winning more points next week. I don't like this idea.
In my match it gets to the other guy needing 1 ball and I need 11, again this mate tells me this is already over, take the dive for the good of the team.
I say no and proceed to make the comeback, 11 straight balls for my first win of the season.
I'm thrilled about the win, and so is my friend but when I see that "teammate" he is furious. I say I'm sorry I won't miss a ball on purpose, my goal is to move up the handicap ladder not drop down for easy pts. He starts yelling at me, looking like he wants to hit me, says I'm arrogant and I've already screwed his team over so much that I should have taken the dive so that I can at least make it up to them. He makes it clear that he would like me off his team, but that's up to the captain, not him.
It bothered me for a while, what he said. Was I being the asshole for refusing to dump my match? I probably came into the league overrated, but I like the challenge... And maybe I'm fine where I am. I had 2 really bad matches and the other 3 were really close! On a good day I can play any 6 in this place even. But I've been struggling with bringing my best game to the league match. I don't think this guy has the right attitude though!
