How Would You Shoot This?

I made these pics from superimposed stills of the video, but inserted the initial cueball starting point.

This pic shows the path the cue ball would take with just left English and no bend. You can see the starting point, contact point on the cushion (look closely) and angle of the ball.

This shows the effect the draw has on the path. The draw takes after impact and bends the cue ball path toward the object ball. English alone may work but not at this impact point. The draw allows a wider path to the object ball. He did use some English to help reverse the angle. Hitting as hard as he did the English would not help much. (In fact, I believe the cue ball is bouncing in that position 2 diamonds from the foot rail).

It's not a shot that comes up a lot, but I've used it to make hits a few times.

It's not just you, it's obviously a lot of people who don't quite understand the cue ball action here. On certain tables with soft cushions you may be able to reverse a cueball this much without draw, but bending a kick shot is not about sidespin. It's all about draw.

I know what draw can do here..:wink: what I'm trying to get across is, the bend or curve in this situation can be done with just about anything left. :eek: Thats all!

In listening to the shot I'd say the cueball bounced at least once and maybe twice:eek:.

Point is, English and a level cue won't bend the cueball on a kick. It just changes the rebound angle off the cushion.

Sometimes an answer is counter-intuitive.....but this matches the picture
in my mind.

It looks like in the pics it did bounce twice. Slamming the cueball like that also tends to straighten out the bank a bit.

That jumping of the cueball is what stops the inside English from reversing enough. If this shot were hit softly, the reverse English would take a lot more.

Tate, I'll just say this- next time you are at a table, try it with just draw, no english, and watch what happens. (or what doesn't happen).
