Was this the best Mosconi performance ever?

Best ever performance in a Mosconi was Archer's undefeated run in 2012, in which he posted a record of 6-0. It was so impressive that in the closing interviews, the winning Team Europe players all took the trouble to praise Johnny's remarkable run of excellence in a losing effort.
Yeah, this performance was a dandy.
I'd also take note of Souquet 6 Hatch 5 in the 2013 Mosconi. The pool gods did everything in their power to help Hatch win, with a 3-9 combo and two golden breaks landing in Dennis' lap in the race to six, but even that level of help wasn't enough, as Souquet beat him anyway, running a super-tough rack at double hill.

Before and after last year's Mosconi Cup, I posted the career records for all 10 of the players on the 2013 teams. Here are the years when any of those players went undefeated (including an Archer-matching 6-0 for Souquet in 2008):
2012, 6-0 Archer
1997, 5-0 Strickland
2001, 3-0 Strickland
2005, 4-0 Strickland
2004, 5-0 Morris
2005, 4-0 Morris
2008, 6-0 Souquet
2013, 4-0 Souquet
2013, 5-0 Feijen
It's also noteworthy that Morris was on the winning side in 12 straight matches (his last match in 2003, all 5 of his matches in 2004, all 4 in 2005, and his first 2 in 2006). That may be a record.
[And don't forget Jeanette Lee and Vivian Villarreal -- both 5-0 in 1994.]
There sure seems to be a lot of results pickers around here. Short races, like in the Mosconi Cup, are not statistically significant.
A player's track record in MANY competitions is a better measuring stick.
The European cheerleaders may have to start giving Americans a little more credit instead of constantly providing a retort every single time someone mentions a good stat about an American player.

The OP made it pretty clear they were referring to a single match performance, and I've seen plenty of credit given to American players in this thread. From what I can tell, it's not been a tribal, US vs. Europe thread at all (aside from your post, obviously).
One thing that is dawning on me as I read this thread is that I've seen less than half the Mosconi events. To a point, that makes me unqualified on a subject like best ever.
JAM is right, we can't compare great Mosconi performances to something like Shane's three year undefeated run in US Open races to 11, a performance for the ages, and, come to think about it, an undefeated streak that is still going.
Still, the short races ensure that everybody lives on the edge and makes for exciting pool. In most cases, the same guys succeed whether its short races or longer races. Shane was at his very best in the Derby City 9-ball when the races were to seven. Johnny and Earl, whose biggest accomplishments came in longer matches (regardless of 2013's disappointment) generally thrived in the Mosconi Cup format over the years.

...my pick will be Johnny Archer in 2012! Not only, that he has played outstanding pool - in my eyes he's the perfect Gentleman of Pool.

...I think, Chris Melling has to get some credit in his 2012 appearance. I still remember the shot, when he made the 1 and had to draw the cueball (off the 5 I believe) for position on his second shot! And his kick shot directly into the rail for runout position!

I started this thread because I had watched the apples svb match and it was almost flawless so thought worth a mention
nobody nor I are comparing it to svb 3peat or earls world championships, simply put it was a devastating performance by both players actually but Darren taking advantage of svb illegal break
why cant people take mosconi for what it is? The Americans loved it when they were winning all the time it was the pinnacle of the sport but now the tables have turned they are trying to diminish the competition and undermine the euro achievements
its a short race yes but its alternate break and to 6 not ike its to 3 and most regional events are races to 6 ish anyways and the better player usually comes out on top
think we can all agree usa had the stronger pool 9 ball teams earlier so guess what ? they won. In recent years the euros have, backed by the fact that if they choose they could field a current playing team of all world 9 ball champions, so guess what ? euro has won recently not because of the break or the rolls or the format because they have the better players overall
I agree about JOhnny archer though think he is a true gentleman and good man, one of my favourite American players plus he is a tremendous 9 ball player. much prefer him to Strickland purely because of his attitude, he not only wins but he helps his team. Strickland makes everyone else around play worse, this wasa evident a the world cup of pool also with svb
I agree 100%. It has been Team USA's poor play that has made the event less interesting. I'm hoping this is the year that Team USA wins it. Rivalries don't endure if they become too one-sided.
I agree, I am a Scot so I want the euros to win but I like a lot of the American players and a couple of them are my friends so want to see them do well
I would like a euro win and for it to go to the final day
