John, you were never, ever, going to play me again for serious money. The only question in anyone’s mind (but your own) was: how is he going to weasel out, how's he going to try and save face? Your choice, while pathetic, is not surprising.

What was fun about our first match was afterwards, with my side sitting at the steak dinner you bought us all and doing some back-of-the-napkin calculations that basically amounted to you flying in from China and working the four days of the SBE, only to hand all your profits to us. Your charges re: St. Louis are pulled from your ass and the word of a couple of malcontents, one of whom was barred from tournaments and almost assaulted the promoter. How do I know that? Because of something you gave away in one of your tirades that ID’d him. The other, I’m not 100% sure about, but can make a good guess.

Regardless, I’ve played in rooms all over the country and have met friends in most of them. People see how I conduct myself and can make up their own minds, including one guy who went to NJ for our match, who only knew me from the forums, thought he didn't like me, and ended up giving some of the beers he'd brought.

You, OTOH, left NJ with everyone -- from the room owner on down -- disgusted with your behavior.

I wanted to go back and watch it again. I remember it not being as close as JB has mentioned that it was in this thread.

Sure the score may have been close, but the level of play wasn't.

Two telling things about this: first off, John is only willing to go one month v a year or in perpetuity. Second, he only wants to bet $100. JB knows he probably can't do it and will be gnawing his fingers to the bone to keep them off his keyboard somewhere near then or he'd be woofing for a lot more, lol.

Some loud-mouthed name-changer once said, iirc, that in a pool hall, where they spent many years being groomed by pros, that if somebody really believed in something, they would bet at least $500.. all the way up to everything they had.. if they honestly believed in something.

I'm done with this, Lou.

Mr. Figueroa was NOT beaten into a pulp by the superior merits of Mr. Bartons aiming system, as the latter had claimed would happen, so that part of the argument is pretty much settled. But why argue about supposed cheating (coaching) in a game that you won decisively? That seems both pointless, and dare I say a little petty as well. I don't see what if anything would be proved by another matchup. Mr. Bartons pre game claims was that he would trunce Mr. Figueroa in a convincing manner (which didn't happen), and that Mr. Figueroa would not stand up to the pressure (which he did admirably). So the conclusions would be:

Knowledge of CTE without solid fundamentals will not make you invincible.

Having solid fundamentals will help you stand up to pressure. That is my own interpretation of the events, although it could also be that Mr. Figueroa has a stronger psyche than Mr. Barton gives him credit for. In fact I think that both of these explanations are true.

Mr. Figueroa did show, thus putting Mr. Bartons constant claims that he wouldn't to shame. It is petty to constantly bring up the fact that he was backed for at least part of the amount. Being backed can be even harder than playing for your own money.

On the internet nobody (or at least very few people) cares wether you are liked or not in the real world. People will form their own opinions based on the persons posts. Insinuations and rumors from people who have allready been proven wrong on related subjects carry little weight. (Goes for all participants).

The respect earned by both participants in going through with the match and behaving in a civilized manner is slowly being eroded by petty and childish behaviour that should be beneath both of them.
