Help me choose a tip

So it has come time to replace the tip on my playing cue and this is the first time I have had to do so, so I was hoping to get some suggestions from those with more experience with a variety of tips.

I currently am using what I believe to be a Kamui Original Soft (Brown), I don't know for sure but based on my searching online it seems to be the tip that comes with my shaft 90% of the time. It has been on the cue for almost two years now (I only play once or twice a week) and I really like the way it feels and plays at this moment (based on my reading the layered tips get harder and "change" how they play over time) and I would like something that plays like this tip does now. My first thought was a Kamui Brown Medium, but are there any others I should consider? I don't have the knowledge/skills to replace it myself and there is only one place around that replaces tips so my selection might be limited but if you have some suggestions I would love to hear them.
 
Should try a Ki tech from Chris here on AZ. Both medium and soft that I have, haven't changed on how they play.

Pooldog8 milk duds. He's on this forum. Check it out! Only downside is the high price! $3 each. Never heard a complaint about his tips. Great guy, great tips.
 
I like to think Ki-Techs can compete with anyone out there on performance, and we will outlast any of the competition as far as longevity. It;s a plus having a tip not hardening with time and changing grades over the life cycle... With that being said if you HAVE to go layered for some unknown reason.. G2 is my tip of prefernece in layered tips these days followed by the Ultraskin from Tom Hay... The Ultraskins are cheap enough to replace if they harden up or you have other problems if you are doing the install yourself......

There is no reason you cannot have the tip of your choice installed on your cue professionally

I carry in stock kamui mediums browns and its not that big of a deal to ship tips to you that you can have installed.

First call the cue repair guy and see if he stocks the tip you want, if not tell him to order some in or you order some in. either way its not a big deal.

You can also ship the shaft to someone who repairs cues.

What tip you use is your choice, just make sure the cue repairman does a good job.
 
Since I have a cue repair at home I have tried every tip out there, pooldawg8's milk dud tips have them all beat! His tips have a medium hard hit and grabs like a soft tip you cant go wrong.

Mind a little tough honesty? Everyone recommending a new tip is forgetting one thing. If you are only playing once a week, it really doesn't matter what tip you choose. Do you like the Kamui soft? I recommend staying with the one you are used to.....Kamui soft. To really adjust to the nuances of a different tip, it will take you a long time playing once a week. Stick with what you know.
 
Do yourself a favor, purchase a sampler of the Ki-Tech tips, you'll never look back. Very reasonably priced, much less than Kamui, and much better than Kamui IMHO. I've used several Kamui Black Soft and Super Soft as well as the UltraSkins. Ki-Tech tips are far superior IMHO.

Our sampler is 20 for 3 different grades.... Kablui is $20 for one from Ozone..... We are growing very fast with no advertising aside from word of mouth.... I think people are starting to wake up to the hype......

So many

Well you have now been given many options to choose from. This tip thing reminds me of other things in life, where often more then one thing will do an acceptable job. Bullets, custom barrels, fishing lures, tires, etc. come to mind. The chasing of new and better equipment allows competition and choices to exist. I think 20 bucks is not much for a tip that stays on a cue for a couple of years if a guy is happy with it. But, why pay 20 bucks if you can pay 3 bucks? Pretty sure Reyes, Bustamante, Strickland all use the Elk Master, VanBoening uses the Kamui Brown medium or hard. None of those tips are new cutting edge technology, but in the hands of a master they perform wonderfully. I was content with an old worn Elk Master, but for 3 years I have been using Kamui Black Medium's on Diveney Lake Salvage shafts and Black Soft on a couple of LD shafts. In between that I tried an Onyx, a Zan and a medium Talisman and thought they were ok. One thing is for sure, if I was changing tips 3 or more times a year I would look for a tip that was under 10 bucks each. I guess if I try a new tip it will be a Ki Tech if I could ever figure out their web site, or a milk dud. Now that I have a table and shoot more I may try more tips.
