This performance by Jason Shaw to win the World 8 Ball Championships a few years ago is among the best ever at such a high level.

These tables are comparatively tighter than the tightest US tables. This man pots balls better than few we've ever seen.

When I first read that Jayson was WE8B champ , I watch start of that video
His long shots at start stroking and warming up was just nuts.
I am very sure that the English 8 ball /Blackball top players like Gareth Potts crossed over to play 8ball, they would be hard to beat-just as Darren is hard to beat
Do not know if they have played before but would love to watch Darren play Gareth on 8B . And hopefully they bring back W8B- last W8B was in 2012 :D

They met in Chinese 8ball recently https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxzssbI1j3w

Hi Spartan,
I think they all have different strengths, and it may be hard for Darren Appleton to get back to his past best at English 8 ball. Took me a while to transition from English pool to US pool and back to English pool.

That said, would love to see Gareth, Darren, Selby, Hann, Shaw and a few other legends match up for a super English 8 Ball challenge!

Thanks. Will have a look

You are right they have different strengths- I have watched some and not a lot of Gareth but I have heard number of people say he is one of best ever and a great talent.
It would like to see an 8 ball Invitational like recent Accu-stats 8 ball invitational. Except this will be team even bringing together the top 8 ball players -One team will be the E8B players like Gareth, Darren, Shaw, Chris Meiling. Other team will be the American 8 ball side bring Buste, Earl, Shane, Orcullo, Chang JL. Play both American 8 ball and English 8 ball
Really enjoyed recent Accu-stats 8 ball and CBSA International 8 ball and hope they there are more 8 ball events

They're loud as hell across the pond... cheering and booing the guy's warm up? really?

What are the specifications of the cues they are using?

Typically 8 or 9 mm tip, ash or maple shaft (conical taper). Ebony or rosewood butt. Joint & ferrule are usually brass. Weight varies quite a bit, from 16 to 19 oz usually.

Is it just me or do the angle-cuts of the side pockets look huge? It just looks like the angle of the cushion is cut wide open.

Yes the cut of the side pockets on an English-pool table is easier. You can pocket balls in them from quite an acute angle.

I hate grey cloth in general, but for a televised, event, it's perfect. The colored balls really pop on that surface.

7 foot table? Looks smaller.

Are the balls the same size as pool balls, approx 2-1/4", or are they closer to snooker-sized balls?

Edit from Wikipedia: The ball sets typically range from 2 inches (51 mm) up to 2 3⁄16 inch (56 mm), often with a slightly smaller cue ball, e.g. 1 7⁄8 inches (4.76 cm) for a 2 inch set. The most common sized sets on the market are 2 inch and 21⁄8 inch (54 mm). Along with the single white cue ball, plain unnumbered red (or sometimes blue[5]) and yellow colour balls,

British pool tables come in 6 x 3 foot (1.8 x 0.9 m) or 7 x 3.5 ft (2.12 x 1.06 m) varieties,[6] with 7 ft being the regulation size for league play.

The object balls are smaller than snooker balls which are smaller that US pool balls, 2", 2 and 1/16" and 2 and 1/4" respectively. English 8 ball usually uses a smaller CB, though I'm not sure if the current CB in use is 1 and 7/8" or 1 and 15/16". Have read both. Don't have a micrometer to measure mine.

Looks like a very silly game.
This game has produced a few US style world champions. I agree it's silly in some regards, but at the top level, it requires a higher degree of accuracy of shooting than US pool games, hence, the best players outshine US pool players in terms of potting accuracy.

Thanks. Much appreciated. I did a Google search and didn't find much on the specs.

I really noticed that too. It was like the table was in monochrome and the balls in Technicolor. Very easy on the eyes.

Thanks for posting this link fellas. It got me watching other Blackball matches this weekend along with Chinese 8 ball, which I had never seen and I became an instant fan.
