With so much talk lately about "World Championships", I was wondering: what tournaments would be considered "majors"? If Golf has 4 majors, what are pool's four majors? My guess would be US Open, Derby City, China Open, World Nine ball. Any others need to be considered?

The majors are World 9-ball Championship, All Japan Championships, US Open, and China Open.

Thanks, I've corrected it.

My definition of 'major:'
ANY pool tournament whereas a significant number of the top 50 players in the world participate.

Heck, I feel with so many players from around the world playing top-flight pool, the concept of a major tournament should be redefined.

I'd probably agree with this. I might throw in the Derby as the "fifth major", but in my opinion to be a true major the event has to 1.attract a high profile international field of professionals 2. be sanctioned and carry world ranking points 3. not be a limited field invitational event 4. have a fairly big purse 5. have a history that lends the event gravitas.
