Female Billiard player requests your support!

Dear Santa Claus,

I'd like to go to DCC this year. Need money for 4 nights hotel. That's 800. Oh and a couple hundred for food too. 1000 should do it thanks.

How many would have even opened this thread if it weren't for the title specifying it's a female in need?

it may not be a scam but a red flag has gone up for me.

and seriously, yet another non-contributing member asking us to fund her dream.

good luck to those reaching for their wallets.

best,
brian kc

I was also wondering what in the world being a female player had to do with anything.

Feb 2010 is not exactly new. However, the majority of her posting history has had a similar theme. I admit, the vast majority of mine is posting ridiculous pictures, but hey, I'm also not asking anyone for anything (except for the mods to not ban me)

http://forums.azbilliards.com/search.php?searchid=14753098

Playing pool is expensive though with very little return on investment, so if you want to donate to her cause, then more power to you. If it's not your cup of tea, you can also pass this thread on by and live and let live.

Great point on the newness of her (my bad) I only saw the 18 posts.

In a way, it's worse that the account is 4 years old, since there is very little contribution to the community to counterbalance the "request for financial assistance".

It's obvious that she really only comes around when she needs/wants something.

I appreciate all the concerns about the donations and if it is in fact legit. It is.
Although receiving an invite, it doesn't mean the event will be free for me. The entry is $520 U.S funds which adds up to be $600 Canadian. The hotel is $110/night for 6 nights at the Paper Factory Hotel. Flight is $600.

A little about me. I have been playing pool for 30+ years and have been ranked in the top 3 for the past 3 decades here in Canada. See http://www.cdnqsport.com/ and search past Canadian Champions, you can also find me on www.cbsa.ca. I played my first WPBA event back in 2002, and then again in 2009 & 2010. I played one event is 2009 which I won a qualifier to get a chance to play against some of the best in the world. I then ended up on tour with the ladies where I ended up being ranked 32nd after my first full year in the WPBA and receiving the award WPBA Most Improved Player voted by the players. Due to a shoulder injury and having surgery on my playing arm, I was forced to take some time off, and now here I am asking you for assistance. Asking for assistance is not a crime, and if you choose to donate, I would greatly appreciate it. If you don't, that's ok, but please don't bash me for following a passion I have had for over 30 years. Here is a small list of my accomplishments as there are far too many to put on here. As I stated previously, if you choose to donate, I would be very Thankful for All Y'all's support, the choice is yours. Have a great day! http://www.gofundme.com/i60c1w

So, what do you do for a living in Canada ?

Is this the one where first place is 14k? If so are you offering to sell a percentage or are you just asking for donations? Either way good luck to you and I hope you make it out there.

Ms. Belanger;

I still don't get on what basis it is that you expect people to finance your pool tourney expenses.

And why did you specifically include "female" in the thread title? Was the reason that you figured the big-majority-male-membership here on az would be more inclined to help a female?

You've been an az member for 4 years and have made just 18 posts including this thread asking for donations .

No, it's not a crime but it does seem a little shameless.

Sorry if it comes across as harsh but that's how it strikes me.

It might have been more palatable had you asked for someone to put you in the tourney in exchange for a % of your winnings should you cash.

But nothing about that was mentioned.

best,
brian kc

just took a minute to check out the op's other posts here on az - total 19 since 2010.

there is a def pattern of money requests.

a quarter? i'd rather fund her than Scooter.... or CLEARY - (at least i know what i'm getting!)

if she is legit, then more power to her for asking - can't hurt, right?

but this is getting real old. i read where "ëveryone" is behind the juniors, yet they probably didn't raise $100 via AZB to help send them to China for a $40K ticket last month.

then the Mosconi fundraiser - how much did that raise?

plus Buddy Hall....

meanwhile, my stores don't have enough credit to prepay &/or drivers are hijacking trailers to sell on the side for Xmas presents for their kids, so my furniture doesn't ship, and i don't make commission - now my mortgage is past due & my son didn't get a present for his 14th birthday this weekend.

join the club, OP. if you can't afford to get there, don't go. good luck & nothing personal -

No-one on here got any raffle tickets for the fundraiser we had for the World Juniors, but I did get about $200 one year for my son to go to Jr Nationals from several members. Our fundraiser for the two kids that went to China from MA raised about $3,000 for them which is right in line of the fundraisers we do for Jr Nationals and other charity tournaments (we have a yearly Diabetes one and one for the heart association plus several others if needed for families in hardship or local groups).

I'd suggest that that Denise tries the same thing, set something up with the local pool room and see what happens. We had maybe 40-50 people show up and raised 3 grand between the tournament entry and raffles, if she can get 1/3 of that, that's $1,000 which is not a bad chunck of free money.

Some of them write to the old folks for coin
Well, that's their old ace in the hole
Others have gals on the old Tenderloin
Well, that's their old ace in the hole

They'll tell you all the trips
That they are going to take
From 'Frisco up to that old North Pole

Now their names would be mud
Like a old chump playing stud
If they lost that old ace in the hole

Denise's Belanger's 10 Ball Quest

Hi everyone, I am excited to say that I received a much anticipated invitation to compete in the Women's 10 Ball International Championships being held in New York from Dec. 16-21, 2014. I have longed for the opportunity to compete in such a prestigious event for so long but it had always been just a mere dream to not only earn an invite but to actually get myself there to compete. Given the time constriction of confirming my entry, I also have to make travel arrangements, accommodations, etc. I look to my friends and fans to aide me in fulfilling my dream to represent Canada at this prestigious event. Please donate whatever you can, it will go a long way! Billiards to me is a passion like none other and to live my dream with your help and support would be so very much appreciated! Thanks everyone for your support! Xo

I'm surprised by the hostility shown to you. Normally the people on this website are quite caring and helpful. Hope you're able to raise the money for the tournament. Good luck.

I hope I wasn't sounding hostile.

was I, Pete?

Haven't done it for pool but for softball to go to nationals and stuff we normally have a fundraiser at a local bar. Supply some free keg beer, have a been bag tournament where the winner wins half the pot, do a couple 50/50 drawings and we normally make 3-4 thousand at 15 dollars a ticket. I've been to a few charity pool tournaments where half the pot goes to the winner the other half to the charity/ fundraiser and I would say 90% of the time the winner donates the money back.

I agree. This is probably the first pro-level event that she's tried to play in. I don't know how "prestigious" it is, given it is just a "pay your entry and play" tournament, but I tried to help her a little. She's only trying to raise $2000, and already has $700. :D

2 k...sounds like baby is going in style. I've driven to many a tournament with 20 dollars in groceries and slept in the Chevy hotel. I kick myself now for not asking strangers to send cash.
