Pool will make you humble
Silver Member
I just got a Connelly Conquistador FREE. It was barely used. I plan on putting new rails on it and Blue Simonis 860 Pool Table cloth. Person wanted it gone. I was going to buy a Diamond Pro, but hey I got to try the FREE route 1st. I hope Connelly's are good enough to use as a practice table.

Anyone play on a Connelly? Do they play well or am I wasting my time? Any brand of rail suggestions?

Sure as hell better than no table, and you can't beat the price!

I'm far from an expert, but if it was me, I'd try to sell it to put toward a GC or Diamond.

By rail, do you mean rubber?
Test the table first....if you can hit 4 lengths plus, just put cloth on it.

yeah, I thought about that, but I am going to try it out and see how it plays. In a year or so, I may sell it and buy a Diamond.

Yes, I mean Rubber... The rubber may work, but I would like to make the table play the best possible. Since I got it FREE I can spend a few $$$ to get good rubber on the rails and cloth...

I've seen Connelly tables used on television for some of the past pro tourneys. A friend of mine bought one cheap too and I've played on his. It plays well enough for sure! Nothing plays like a Diamond though. I wish I could replace my Olhausen with a Diamond but my wallet dictates otherwise.

Yes, I understand wallet for sure. I am building a garage / billiard room that is heated and air conditioned. It is 20' X 30' with 10's ceilings. I am going to make it primarily for pool in the back 20' X 20' room with a small 10' X 20' shop in front. So that is where I am spending most of my money. Trying to build the thing for under $20k.... So not much left over for a pool table...

The biggest difference I've noticed from my Connelly and a Diamond table is I can't
draw the ball as far as I can on a Diamond. I put new Simonis and Brunswick Super speed rubber on it when I got it. I'm not sure if this is the table or the set of balls that came with my table? Everything else is pretty similar. Bucket side pockets and tight corner pockets.

Wow, sounds like a great set up! Congrats and good luck with the project. Be sure to post some pics when you can! Sounds awesome.

I have zero experience with this table, just going by the specs...

It looks decent for a home table. The specs list 4 bolt rails, and 1.25" slate. I wonder if the slate is truly 1.25", or they are counting the backing boards? The specs also list 2" wide hardwood cross beams. That should be nice. Also listed are 6" wide rails. The GC rails (including the cushion) I just measured at 7". So that is nice. A lot of the home tables have really narrow rails.

Good find:)

I wonder if its because the Diamond is a sturdier table? As the ball rolls, tiny micro vibrations in the frame and slate would slow it down. That's one of the reasons a 3 Cushion table rolls further (besides the cloth). The slate is much thicker on those tables than a commercial pool table. And why a junk home table with 1/2" slate rolls less.

It's possible. Not to mention I had to do a lot of bracing in the crawl space underneath the table because there is no main structural beam running below the
table. Just walking around the table before I braced it you could see the balls wiggling.
