MP Cup! PacMan International Tournament

Day 2 of the PACMAN Doubles tournament is about to start in 15 minutes (11 pm US EST). The team-up of Orcullo/Van Boening is now on the B side after losing 8-9 in their first match. Not sure though if this will be the match they will be streaming.

I guess we will know in a few minutes.

…VAN BOENING/ORCULLO vs. MARTINEZ/ANGOR first match up

8-3 Dennis/Shane on the hill.

Dennis/Shane win. I swear Shane didn't call that last 10-ball. ;)

Shane was practising down the rail shot after they won .
Then suddenly out of nowhere his nemesis Ronnie appeared about to take over the table - probably Ronnie playing next match
That must have spooked Shane as he cannot seem to shake off Ronnie
Muahaha

Next match is the doubles team-up of Ignacio/De Luna vs Garcia/Sultan.

Ignacio/De Luna were the winners of the 1st Pacman Doubles tournament.

GENERAL SANTOS CITY--Mika Immonen and Rodney Morris whizzed by Efren "Bata" Reyes and Francisco "Django" Bustamante, 9-4, to barge into the Round-of-16 of the MP (Manny Pacquiao) Cup Philippine Open 10-Ball doubles championships Monday at the SM City Mall here.

Immonen, Finland's best player and world No. 16 and Morris from America, capitalized on the Filipinos' dry breaks and small miscues to advance in the company of defending doubles champion Jeffrey de Luna and Jeffrey Ignacio, who also scored an easy 9-4 victory over Napoleon Labrador and Reynaldo Lariba.

"Nothing is easy here," said Immonen after the victory even as they face tougher tests ahead. Pre-tournament favorites who lost in the elimination round kept their hopes alive and were slated to compete in the other Round-of-32 matches (losers's bracket) Tuesday afternoon. The list included the team of Shane Van Boening and Dennis Orcollo, among others.

"We still have a long way to go," said the 44-year-old veteran Morris, who sped away for good after leading by a whisker, 4-3, earlier in the match against the Filipino pool legends.

Also previously unbeaten was the team of host and eight-division boxing champion Rep. Manny Pacquiao and Ronnie Alcano. They were trailing the tandem of Romeo Silvano and Jordan Legaspi, 2-7, as of press time.

Pacquiao bankrolled the $150,000 singles and doubles events in celebration of his birthday weekend. Pacquiao turns 36 on the 17th and has lined up rich tournaments in darts, basketball and chess, among others.

Carlo Biado and Anthony Raga also won handily over Lee Van Corteza and Jericho Banares, 9-4, and remained unbeaten. Taiwan's wonder duo of Ko Pin Yi and Ko Pin Chung ousted the tandem of Thorsten Hohmann and John Morra.

Other winners' matches included Warren Kiamco and Rodrigo Geronimo vs Chang Jung Lin and Fu Che Wei. Hsu Kai Lun and Cheng Yu Hsuan were locked in a tight battle with Benjie Guevarra and Roland dela Cruz, 6-6 in the race-to-nine event.

They now have a FINAL 32 list. Does this mean they start from scratch now and it will be single elimination from now on?:

No they are only doing a 16 team single elimination bracket. I don't know why they listed it like that, probably to confuse everyone. There are 8 teams that are through & waiting that will not play tonight. There are still 24 on losers side playing tonight to make up the other final 8.

I don't think they are confusing anyone. Those were the teams in the final 32. They will list the final 16 after all the matches. That's my understanding.

Obviously it can be confusing to some when simply listing names like that without ever stating the exact format they would be using. There is a bracket on their website where I found out it would be 16 coming out of the groups.

Shane and Dennis have to win 2 matches tonight to go into the final 16.

And it looks like the second one (if they get there) would be against the loser of the Biado/Raga vs. Vann Corteza/Banares match (which should have been over 14 hours ago, but I still don't know the results). That second SVB/Orcollo match would be about 5½ hours from now.

I don't think so. If they win 2 straight matches, then they are through to the last 16 which will now be single elimination matches.

Biado/Raga already won over Corteza/Banares 9-4 and are already through to the final 16 along with 7 other teams. If I understand the format correctly, there are already 8 teams on the final 16 who will no longer play tonight and will just have to wait for the 8 players from the B side. There are still 24 teams alive on the B side. And after tonight, they will be down to 8.

Yes, if Biado/Raga won, that put them in the final 16. But the losers, Vann Corteza / Banares, would head to Match 100 on the flow chart, scheduled for 2 pm local time (5 hours from now). And SVB/Orcollo can still get to Match 100 if they win Match 92 about 3 hours from now. [At least that's how I see it from the flow chart.]

I hope they live stream that match. They were having problems last night with the live streaming.

Only the B side teams are seeing action tonight. The first session will start at 11 pm, US EST. Second session starts at 1 am US EST. After tonight, there will be 16 teams, single knockout format. Not sure how they are going to determine the pairings.

Yeah Shane & Dennis will play R. Rollo / A. Claro to get to Corteza/Banares.
