Carom 8-ball

Here's a game that I came up with recently.

It's called "Carom 8-ball".

Open break, all balls pocketed on the break are spotted, and the breaker shoots whether balls are made on the break or not.

The idea is to score a carom using two balls from your group. The second ball struck by the CB is pocketed. Any of your group pocketed while scoring a point stay down. Any balls pocketed on a miss are spotted.

As there's no carom left when you're down to your last ball, your last ball and the 8-ball must be banked.

To prevent the game from becoming totally defensive and going on forever, the opponent gets BIH after every miss, and of course every foul.

It's really rather simple, and it's GREAT for learning cue ball control, plus banks, and some strategy as well!

Nice, might be a little much for a beginner, but definitely challenging.

My version, NOT for beginners,
Outta boredom yrs ago ''carom kick pool''. Call ball in pocket, any pocket, but cue ball must first strike another ball first....that's all :). Kiss's combinations and air shots are legal. Full rack slop all balls down, race to ?10? scratches don't count against you, but if made during a good carom, shot does not count, BIH in the kitchen.

Spot 3 balls as follows: 1ball head spot. 2ball center spot, 3ball foot spot. Pocketed balls are valued per their number. Carom must be made for all shots. Carom = 1 point. Balls pocketed are immediately spotted before the next stroke. All points earned in a run are lost if a scratch occurs. Play to whatever. Some play if you go over you either lose all points or just points in the run. Take your pick. Some play if you carom off all 3 balls it 5 points.

Great getting into stroke game.

It's actually just as simple, or more simple, than standard 8-ball!

The great value, even for a novice, is that it teaches cue ball control...which is just what "beginners" need!

See my post under "Pocketing balls or playing position". I teach beginners to learn both, rather than how to pocket balls and then how to play position some time in the future.
