****stolen 1953 balabuska**** dallas, tx.

is it signed as it appears to be in the 2nd pic?

could the old timer be off by a score or three with regards to when he acquired the cue

hope he gets his cue back
What are you referring to? Picture 2 you can't tell anything about the cue it is so fuzzy. I don't see anything on the cue in the other pictures.

ribdoner...No signature on that cue. George never signed any of his cues. The signed ones are tribute/copy cues made by a different company.

The signature is just a washed out point with veneers anyway.

Everyone is pointing out it is a Palmer, which it likely is, but overlooking the fact that someone's cue got stolen.

A veteran's cue no less.

Spread the word throughout Texas. That's not a common veneer set or point length. It will definitely stand out. It's a classic belonging to a hero and should be returned quickly. Offer a substantial reward and file a police report.

It's always a shame when a cue is stolen, let alone from an old man. It looks like a WICO forearm to me.

i think i'm seeing a faint and fuzzy sig in pic 2, it could be nothing

What area/state was it taken from?
Never mind I overlooked the location. I'll tweet it , hopefully someone sees it

This is an interesting turn for this cue, someone has a cue stolen that he thinks is a Balabushka, then it turns out it's very likely not after pictures are posted to find it. Do'h! Hope it's found and they can sort out exactly what cue they have.

Sorry for anybody's loss, but not a Bushka. Proportions are all wrong, as stated above, and the wrap is not something from the 50s, let alone the 60s or even the 70s, from the look. I would suspect a very late Palmer, or an Adam cue, as it's not something that would be that old, from the pictures. Also, the picture of the joint is not very close, but it looks like there's too much space between the nickel ring and the maple part of the shaft and butt to be a Bushka. Closer pictures of the joint and butt plate would be useful.

If the person who stole this cue is on AZ, maybe he/she will post some better pictures.

But seriously, whatever this cue may be, the important thing is that it is found and returned to it's owner.

PS I would be surprised to find out this this cue is a Palmer. If it is, it is a one-off, but to the suggestion that it may be a WICO, it is not a WICO blank.

I knew a guy who told everyone who'd listen his cue was a Balaushka. Anyway people believed him because they eventually stole it. When the thieves found out it wasn't a bushka, they returned it! It just wasnt worth the heat being a Palmer or whatever it was.

A very likely outcome in this instance.... ;)

I believe you're correct, it's not a WICO blank. From the blurry pictures, I think it's the plain ebony model (GB-2) of the Adam "Balabushka" reproductions.

Sorry the cue was taken, and sure hope he gets it back. Terrible for an older vet to have this happen.

The cue appears to be an Adam Balabushka GB-2 cue, not expensive but likely high sentimental value. I wish him well.

Please repost and share with everyone !!!

This cue was stolen from the Billiard Den last week. It belongs to Gene Burns. A lot of people in the pool family know him, he been around forever. Very nice older gentlemen , i think mid 80's , always wears his war veteran cap.

He bought this cue new and has owned it for over 60 years. The cue is all original and in perfect brand new condition. He hand waxed the cue since it was new.

As a friend and admirer of Gene, i am absolutely sick that someone took his cue. So lets pull to together pool family, and get this man his cue back !!!

Please share this with everyone and be on the look out for it.
I love to hang out and chat with Gene. He is a true gentleman and very friendly. I remember getting his number over a year ago in order to try and drag him down to Austin for the state tournament.

When I called him up to discuss it, I found out he still drives and had just gotten back from an out of state tournament. I guess I should hitch a ride with him !

Anyway he is a cool cat and doesn't play much due to poor eyesight. Let's get this cue back.

PM me TXStang if I can help in any way. I play there on Thursdays.

A bad news, good news, bad news, good news, bad news story. The bad news is your friend's $5,000 Balabushka was stolen. The good news is it's a $200 Adam. The bad news is your friend's 60 year real Balabushka story is slightly embellished. The good news is people really believed it, but the bad news is some crook, who really believed it, stole it.

I can't envision a happy ending to this story.

update

I just spoke with Gene again. he said he bought it in 1957 from George. I suppose he could be mistaken about the year, but to me as a friend, I don't care. I'm just trying to help him get his stick back.

thanks for trying to clarify exactly what it is we are looking for though.

as of now, I'm not aware of any other pictures of the cue. I just happen to take those pictures one night last year after i hit balls with it for a few games.
