Alright, crazy question. Here's my dilemma, I'm currently condo shopping and I want to have a place that has room for a 9' diamond pool table (which is near impossible). I've seen pictures of those dining room tables that double as pool tables....are any of those good quality. I guess I could live without diamond quality but my assumption about all the companies that make those tables is they are very garbage quality. Am I assuming right or are there any companies that make a decent pool table that doubles as a dining table when not in use.

Thanks!

As with many compromise products, it is a compromise.

Any pool table is better than no pool table and one can live just fine with no dining table.

That is pretty damned cool. If you weren't looking for the "pool" table underneath, you'd never know.

Nice.

I love the leaves for the gold crown. Do you know where I can find out more specs about this table top?

Somewhere there is a thread on this topic which suggests that you simply buy the table you want and have the top made.
Here are a couple of photos from that thread that I kept around.
This top is on a Gold Crown, IIRC

I had the same situation. My table is in the living room and we use it every now n then as a dinner table. I was going to have an expensive top made for it but instead, we got an 8' sheet of plywood, that we put over the cover. Then we just put a nice tablecloth over the plywood, viola!

I was careful to buy a table that doesn't have deep side rails, so one could fit legs underneath. I was going to make a wooden table top like seen in the pics, but after deeper consideration I was concerned about spillage seeping through the seams. Would need special grooved hinges that are as long as the table is wide where the pieces join, which still might not catch all spillage should it happen...

And since I don't anticipate using it as a banquet table very often, we went a different route. I bought table insert that is 50" x 100" to flatten the table surface, then put fitted, thick fake leather cover over the whole thing. It's spill proof and it all folds up and fits nicely under the table. Total investment for the insert (used, local craigslist) and cover (new, ebay) came to $150. The cover is thick enough to where the pockets don't cause dips or holes in the cover. It's a very portable and easy solution. The base of my table is black, and the cover is black. Doesn't look "elegant" without a table cloth, but it does not look cheap or ugly, either.

We had 16 people sitting around the table for Thanksgiving this year and not a single complaint.

One neat side of using the pool table for family festivities like this... I had lots of help clearing the table and cleaning up so we could start playing pool.

Smoothest, quickest Thanksgiving cleanup, ever!

LOL!
