Challenge of Champions

I just watched the finals that aired yesterday. Can't believe how the sudden death game between Appleton and Hohmann went.

Now that it's aired anybody have any thoughts?

I know those were supposedly tight pockets, but I saw a lot of surprising errors.....especially by Shane when he lost to Darren, and then by Darren when he lost in the Final.

Darren ' s last 2 shots were terrible. What pressure can do. He hit the 6 too hard. Then when he had no shot of the 7 and a good safe, he again hit it too hard. 25 K out the door. He looked sick.

What were the size of the pockets? I though the women were playing on what looked like bigger than 4 1/2" corners.

They all played worse than Buddy Hall or Mike Lebron didn't they? I heard about the 8 Ball shot Shane missed but haven't seen it yet. Was it really that easy? Does anyone have it on youtube yet?

CJ,

I saw Shane's mis & yes it was an extremely easy shot & he hit it too full right into the long side point of the side pocket.

The corner pockets looked a bit 'not tight' as I saw a few balls go off the long rail that will not go on the 4 1/8" pockets of the Diamond tables at the hall I go to.

Best 2 Y'a,
Rick

PS A hair of the TOI might have cured that 'dog'.

Shane missed a very routine 8 in the side. He missed a 6 and 3 in the corner that an APA 4 would spear.

Funny they had an interview with Appleton saying pool was the highest mental pressure sport. With few big paydays he said you have to make your opportunities pay off.

The shot clock and 25 k had them missing. Hohmann played very well versus Orcullo and in finals. So the right player won this time.

Just because a champion player misses an easy shot doesn't mean they........

I'm glad to hear Buddy Hall's name cleared about the 1991 Challenge of Champions. Many of us tried to tell people how much pressure there was and that any shot could be missed.

Just because a champion player misses an easy shot doesn't mean they did it on purpose - I did it on my last shot of a tournament last night....I only missed one shot the entire match and after that, broke dry and didn't get back to the table.

It would be interesting to compare the shots you mentioned with the one that Buddy missed to see which shot was easiest. Does anyone have that ability at this time?

When you get four guys of that skill together, the winner is the guy that makes the fewest mistakes. Toasty won that tournament on his first lag. He got some rolls, but that's nine ball.

Darren had that one, but his mistakes cost him.

Question about the break: All four players were breaking hard from the side rail. Similar to the MC. Were there any rules about the break?

This was a REAL DEAL tournament with REAL DEAL coverage and REAL DEAL sponsors. I've thanked ESPN for the MC and will thank them for this as well. I hope to see more

Ben

Was Darren trying to hook himself on every other shot like Buddy was on top of missing?

What happened? I missed it. Did Darren beat Shane again?

Darren beat shane in the tie breaker match when shane missed a routine 8 in the side
thorsten ran all over orcollo
thorsten beat darren in tie breaker match when darren overran position on seven and played a bad safety leaving hohman a chance to run three balls to the cash

Imagine a Super Bowl that was winner take all,

There's no one immune to pressure. Playing a winner take all format is almost cruel and unusual punishment. Imagine a Super Bowl that was winner take all, you think there wouldn't be some "unusual" things happen. :)
