Red Shoes Derby Qualifier

It should be fun....why even an old man like me might take a shot at it.

Why, is this the famous John Lavin? The guy who ran 100 balls in front of Dallas West many moons ago?

Knowing John, it probably took less than 20 minutes to run the balls.

This tournament might be nice, after all. Bobby Hunter, Tom Karabatsos, John Lavin, Ike Runnels, Ed Latimer and Bob Cozzolino have all run 100 before and say they are probably in.

Mike Eck going to try to make it, high run of 80 this session. Me and Klein high runs around 50 something. Bob Crawford might come down from Madison, high run over 100. Frank "Sailor" Stellman is coming down with Jeff Carter. I don't know if Jeff is playing but he is probably another 200 ball runner. Sailor also might bring the girl he is teaching right now, high run of 70.

Might be some fireworks!

Anyone know if there's any streaming from RedShoes for this? If so, any links?

Thanks,
Steve

There was no streaming.

We seeded the top four participants.Bobby Hunter, Ike Runnels, Tom Karabatsos, Bob Cozzolino, so that there would be a better chance that the top players would win. ( We did not want #1 and #2 to be playing each other in the first round). The players were all fine with it and most saw their $20 entry fee as being in the nature of a donation to Straight Pool, Red Shoes and Derby with a chance to play some great players.

We had 17, but I dropped out to make it an even field of 16. 3 of the top 4 seeds made it to the final four, but Tom Karabatsos drew Ed Latimer in the first round. Tom was ahead 86-62 when Ed ran 38 and out.

Hunter and Ike were the top two and will be playing at Derby. Since our entry fees generated $320, Red Shoes kindly offered to put $300 of the money up and only keep $20 total for Greens fees. Thanks to John Lavin for his support of Straight Pool and the Derby City Straight Pool Challenge. We had a third ticket available for a playoff between Latimer and Cozzolino but they ran out of gas and decided to split the $100.

Frank Sailor Stellman came down from Racine along with former female pro Bonnie Arnold and was chatting with all who would listen. Bob Crawford came down from Madison, Wisconsin to play in the event and hang around afterwards. Bob Whitlock came from Sterling Illinois just to watch some straight pool.

Thanks to everyone who supported the event.

Thanks for the update, Dennis. Congrats to Ike & Bobby. Looks like I missed some great pool, hope to get to the Derby for a couple days to make up for it!
