Ferrule lathe at work

Cool ... great for production runs.
I can see you could turn out a hundred or so in a short time.
I really like the way the cutoff tool is mounted.

Hi,

I visited Prather's shop this summer and got to meet Jeff and his Dad.

Jeff let me make four ferrules on that machine. Very cool stuff.

Their lathes and equipment are all very high end and there is a lot of machine set ups.


The T 34 material is just like Juma.

That turret lathe is really nice, much nicer than mine. I just have a Rockwell turret lathe. The guy had a Hardinge when I bought the Rockwell, but wanted 4 to 5 times the money for it. That Hardinge was really smooth operating.
 
Great equipment. Nice for Prather to offer 3/4 long ferrules.
1" long ferrules are getting passe'.
Nice v-cutting mill on a separate video.
Kinda scary though with Jeff's hand under the sleeve.
 
Can the rotating part on the turret be switched out? Meaning leave all the holders in place, remove that fixture, and replace it with another setup?
 
Impressive for sure and super cool for runs of many ferrules.
Was just wondering - is the taps slipping adjustable or is it fixed?
I always hand-feed my tap while mounted in the tailstock and tailstock free "running" on the bed.
Never dared to hit the leaver to engage the chuck when threading :p

Yeah, Randy, that would be a good idea. I guess you could always buy a new turret assembly and switch them out but that's sort of expensive! I can usually change it to make different types of ferrules, in an hour or so, depending on the complexity of the ferrule.
