I'd play any pro race to 50 for $20. Winner pays table time.

In one pocket I'll take even up but in allowed to move the cue up to 1" after every shot.
I sometimes wonder how much of a spot I'd need to get to be willing to play a pro for money.
Note: this thread is purely fictional because it's widely known in my town (and by some on this very forum) that I am a complete nit.
...for now.
If you had to challenge a pro to play for money who would it be, what would kind of spot would you ask for and what game would you pick?
On the barbox.....6 and out with the break and they can line up.
I would want Earl first, I would have him looking like  very quickly!
I think your over rating that break unless your playing 8 ball
The break is the 1st thing I give someone that wants weight in a rotation game
Unless the player can get out almost every time he is supposed to and fairly often when it is a tough table then giving the break is no spot at all, maybe the opposite. Some people, I prefer to give them the break to clear up some of the traffic on the table knowing their chances of running out are ten percent or less.
This can backfire if the person is smart enough to run out to a lock-up safety but almost without exception the male players are too aggressive for their own good. The ladies play a smarter game in my opinion.

I understand the theory 100% but I had rather take my chances of making a ball on the break (which is more times than not for me). If a ball is made then I have the advantage even if I have to "push out". If I do have a decent shot, I will not try to run out unless I'm
80% or better sure that I will get out. I am more safety minded than most players, so if I can't get out, I'm locking ya up (best safety possible of course).
Don't mis-understand me, I've gave players the break as part of their spot. But it's according to their speed of play. Like someone else commented, if I know their not going to run out very often then it's not much of a spot. Being in a little higher percentage rate than 10% of running out is also a factor!!!!
I just feel this gives me a better chance versus letting a world beater break and run out.
Just my humble opinion.....
I don't think you are factoring in how much of a difference there is between a pro and you as opposed to you and someone you would give weight to.
If you play winner breaks vs a pro you will need quite a bit more weight because you will rarely see the table when they break unless it is dry or a scratch which doesn't happen too often. They will either run out or put you in jail continuously.
If I were to match up with a strong shortstop or better, I am asking for the breaks before talking about any ball weight.
My sentiments exactly!
By the way......Nice thread OP.
