How much does a used valley bar box cost?

I'm preparing for negotiations on a valley 7' bar box table and I'm not sure how much they go for. I've seen them as low as $300 and as high as $2,500. Any advice?

I'd also like to know more information on how hard it is to level one of these tables. I've come across some that always seem to be out of level although the owner claims he levels them often. Is there a way to test how well a table stays leveled other than just leveling it and waiting a few weeks? Can you level the table by yourself or is it a 2 person operation?

Other than visually inspecting the rails pockets/felt and overall table surface I'm not sure what else I should look for to make sure the table isn't a piece of shit. Any advice?

I plan on having someone shim up the pockets and put on simonis cloth, do you foresee any problems with doing that to a valley table? I'm not much of a table mechanic, just a player who wants a table so I apologize for asking stupid questions but I need all the help I can get...

Deends on where you live and how new the table is. You can get a Valley where I live for 500. If you want it recovered with new rail work done to tighten the pockets, budget another 500.

If you buy a bottle jack you can level the table yourself with ease.

The slate may need to be shimmed to get the leveling right and your table mechanic would do that as part of recovering the table.

IIRC, in Louisiana, a used Valley around 10 years old, can be had for under $500. I've seen them as low as $250 in good condition.

There was even a craigslist add a couple years ago with a newer Valley with ridgeback rails and simonis 760 for under $750
 
I got mine for $1400 total- however that included new cushions, cloth, delivery (of 30 miles distance) and setup.

It has been a good table. It is level and I had them make the pockets around 4 inches (can't fit two balls in a pocket opening). However, the cloth was installed a bit loose causing it to bunch up in one spot. I'll have to get that fixed. It is nice finally having my own table.
 
Thanks for the info! Is there anything tricky about moving one of those tables or can you just throw it in a pickup truck? Do the legs come off?
 
$400 to $750 is reasonable dependent upon the condition. Were It me, I'd install Ridgeback rails and new simonis. You can definitely move one with a full sized pickup. Assuming the feet are in good shape, easy to level. Good luck!
 
The legs do come off (they're held on with a few screws), and you can just set the body of the table in the back of your truck. Some people like to lay it on it's side, and tie it down, for less stress on the 1/2" slate.

I bought my last Valley 7' table from Robertson's Billiard Supply in Tampa, FL. for $900 in close to new condition. They took my old table away, del and set up the new table and covered my new Ridgebacks that make the pockets 4 1/4". The table already had almost new cloth on it. I'm very happy with it. Johnnyt
