Dispelling the myth: Magic Chalk

Oh the memories with that fiasco LOL

Yeah! That was awesome! That thread provided a lot of entertainment. I wish I could have been there to see it.

I think the colorful people on this forum make it great and worth reading.

I can only take "LD shafts vs. Maple shafts" so much.

I still owe Jay a beer.

I always wondered why a product made in Russia would have "Made in Russia" in english on the box.

It would be kind of like making a product here and putting Russian text on the box.

Weird, great post.

95% of US products have everything duplicated in Spanish on them, and with English being the "official" international trade language it's not that odd that there is English writting on it.

Funny part is that I am from Lithuania and a native Russia speaker and I did not think to read the Russian part LOL. He's right about the translation sounding funny when you read it, it really does not work properly even if the direct translation into English is OK.

Either way, even if it's not made in Russia, it's still my favorite chalk and about the only one I have not tried was Kamui. I like it better than Blue Diamond which I rank over Masters and Predator, so it's two steps over Masters for me.

Now that I am in DC, I might actually have to take you up on the beer lol, if I only had time!!!

so i woke RJ's ass up @ 8am his time & told him his ears were burning....

i just found his text (sorry, i've been working). there were a whole bunch of hieroglyphics, that are, what could be construed as "Russian", and as best i can decifer, Putin is holding him hostage & is waiting on Obama's counter-offer.

i am kidding - he said to tell yáll that he's in a meeting (with Putin:ignore:) for the next 8 hours & has "league" tonight (code for Top Secret Chalk Maneuver :ignore:), and will try to respond this evening in between the two (assuming we pay the ransom :ignore:).

where are JIMMYG & MR BOND when we neeeeed them????

sorry but I have to claim my priority in bringing the truth to the world :grin-square: Funny, it's only now I noticed the post was made on 10/10/10. Cool!
Well, click here to read my post about RMC

As long as Balabushka chalk is still Russian done, I'm good.

Freddie <~~~ hooray for Russia made

i've spoken to RJ (remember that little Rhea match-thing), and i'm real sure from his accent - that he's Russian....

Maybe it was just a translation thing. Maybe it was meant to say, "Made by a Russian". :D

OK. That was a long 8 hours today!! Just got home, and off to league in a few minutes...

This is all I know. I buy it from a guy in Latin America. This guy tells me he buys it from the Ukraine. He knows very little about the operations or who owns what, or where the factory is located, etc. etc.

So, as some folks have said, it could be just marketing, and they did it for the US market?? I don't know.

Or maybe the Ukraine does not speak Russian well ??? I don't know ??

Also, on the bottom of the chalk box is a pool table layout with their motto "The Best Chalk of the World" Sounds like that didn't make it into the correct English translation either ?? But it sounds cool though.

So, to be perfectly clear, I can't say if this chalk is made in Moscow, or in a Gulag by political prisoners, or in the Ukraine, or anywhere else for that matter.

Some folks have said they thought it was made by Blue Diamond or Balabushka.... but my theory on that is why would they make the Magic Chalk BETTER than their main product ? Usually, they would make it a little less good, not a lot better ?

But, really confusing, is even if it is NOT made in Russia, why market it that way? And I mean no offense to our Russian AZB'ers, but it's not like folks think of Russian products and think to themselves, "oh, that's gotta be great quality" ;)

Personally, I don't even know where I could buy something made in Russia that sells in the USA ? There are no Russian cars, stereos, furniture, jets, farm equipment, food products, chocolates, watches, clocks, precision instruments, etc. being sold in the US or Canada that I'm aware of, must be a reason for that ?

So, why Russia of all places? :p Why not Germany, Switzerland or Japan, or some place known for some high quality stuff?

Funny thing is my son wants to study Russian language and history in college in a few years, and he wants to do one year abroad in Moscow... maybe he can track down the factory for me then ;)

So, maybe I can change the name to "Blitzkrieg Chalk" now made in Berlin ;) Of course, I don't know who to contact to make the change request !!! But, either way, any publicity is always better than NO publicity. Thanks fellers ;)

Let me get this straight....
...it's called Magic Chalk....
..and people are surprised that where it is made is unknown?

That's it, me and RJ are going to do some business....
...I want some MAGIC in my life.

And I hope we never find out where it's made

Next time I come to Chi, RJ....or if a friend is going there, we gonna do something

If it does the job, that's good enough for me.

I had the box interpreted by a Russian man. The area code was Russian.

The info I got back was the same info that Ali Baba had at one time on their site. I inquired at Ali Baba and got a blank, even tho they did have it advertised at one time.

I did forward what little I had to Vahmurka and he checked, if I remember, as far as calling the number, but came up with a dead end.

If it is the same guy in, lets just say, somewhere South America, so I don't let on that I know anything more, that I am thinking of, it's probably who I had purchased my original supply of Diamond and Russian from.

He probably knows exactly where he gets it from. If yer a Middle Man, you prolly want to continue being the Middle Man, yes. Not RJ, but the person who supplies RJ. I am sure that RJ knows as little as the rest of us do. Just that he knows where to get it.

Who cares anyway, unless you want to also become a Chalk Dealer. You won't get it any cheaper than what RJ is selling it for.

It is great chalk so just make sure that if you like it, keep a nice supply on hand, cause one never knows when a good thing is going to come to an end.

I will continue to buy from RJ, cause I can tell ya one thing fer sure. Shipping from Some Where/No Where South America to Canada is stupid enuff to make it not worth a persons while.

RJ sells it for the same as the middle man does. The difference is, shipping from Chicago is decent. From SA, you will be paying 4 times in shipping, what the chalk is actually worth.

And please, no PMs re the persons name and location as I will protect RJ's source as if it were my own.

And Pooler is from Poland. If anyone can track it down, he would have the best chance.

Sounds like something to do with silkroad 2.0 and bitcoins

Made in China?

I deal with a lot of products from China, and lot of the writing or advertising that is English is actually very poor English. This sounds like a common error that someone from China would make, only in Russian instead of English.

Maybe it's made in China. Just a thought.

Any bets on where this chalk is really made?

Earth

I really wish I knew, but in the end, I don't really care much. Like I said, maybe I can get the wording changed from "made in Russia" to "Russian Style Chalk"

I don't doubt the Russian AZ'ers have never heard of this chalk, but then again, I don't know about all things made in America either... and Russia is a pretty big place. Maybe a little illegal mom and pop place operating without a license... who knows ?? Maybe they don't want to give Putin his cut ;)
