It should be.

I think the difficulty is that a lot of maple is passed over to get the small percentage useful for shafts, how much lemonwood is of comparable quality that you'd want to use it?

Its used for bows, you should be able to get a lemonwood longbow stave for ~$150. This would be for something like a 4x4x80" of very high quality. You can find shorter / flatter ones used for the limbs. These will be 1x2x40" and about $40-60 each.

You might want to look at osage orange for the other end

And the lemon flower is sweet.

For making shaft wood, it can't be beat.
