That is what I remember about them also. I ended up with 3 or 4 of them. Same here, only one held up and was worthy of finishing and putting a name on.
This one worked out to make an awesome cue. The splicing wasn't true, so it took some trickery to get the points even and clean, but luckily warping was never an issue with this one. I'm more than pleased with the end result, but it required a lot of work and time to get it there.
