Anyone having USPS problems with timely delivery?

Registered mail takes even longer.

The guy posted a picture of a damaged package and said it was three days late.

Registered mail is very unlikely to arrive damaged because every step of the way an employee including the truck driver and carrier has to sign for and is responsible for that individual package. It doesn't get tossed in the bottom of a large container full of parcels. In many cases the driver puts it in the cab of the truck just to make sure it gets to the next stop so he can get someone else to sign for it.

But, if you want to ignore that and use priority or express, it's your parcel. Good luck.

Three days ago I ran into a out of town guy in a Pool room. During our conversation, showing his pool cue he said that he bought that cue on e-bay for $39 and it was shipped from a town in China and he received it at his residence in Long Beach,CA in 24 -30 Hours. Unbelievable.

That may be a great solution for some, but not all cues. Personally if I'm buying a new cue, I don't want the shipment dragging out for more than a week, especially in the wintertime, when the humidity can vary tremendously from place to place and inside vs outside. If I'm buying a priceless vintage cue from far away, then the registered option would definitely be a consideration. When shipping cues from climate to climate though, you should consider all factors. If shipping cost is no consideration, overnight FedEx is still the best service, but they priced themselves out of handling my routine business long ago. Just my thoughts.

PS.....anyone reading this, I've advised this on here several times before and will say it again, always line your shipping box with a PVC tube when sending a cue (wrapped in bubble wrap inside of that). It is so worth the extra $3-4 cost for the material.

Well, think I just received an answer/explanation from someone I know and trust within my local PO system that makes sense.

I was trying to check on a delayed package myself and was asking why it's more common for them to have delays now....I mean, we all understand bad weather, storms, etc., but that doesn't explain the continued spotty service from USPS that has been ongoing since November.

Well, my CI (lol) told me that in addition to last fall, in January they did a consolidation again, where some processing facilities were phased out and transferred elsewhere. So her thoughts were that depending on where the package is coming from or going to, you might see some normal delivery times and some that would run late. The consolidated workflow is probably creating log jams in certain facilities like we see during the peak xmas holiday season, and since these changes are permanent, it is likely these issues will persist.

Remember, priority mail is NOT a guaranteed service, only estimated. But for years they have been so good at getting things there right on their estimated time, that we all probably feel like it's been guaranteed.

It would be a safe approach to not expect priority mail to be 2-3 days anymore. I would add in some extra time. And if you are shipping something that really needs to be where it's going in a couple of days, use the express mail option. It is guaranteed and from my experience lately, is still being handled in the manner it's always been. If they are late, you will be refunded your money/shipping cost.

FYI, the cue I was waiting for was shipped priority from MO to TN on Monday, receipt showed expected delivery in 2 days, and it arrived on Sat. So it arrived the morning of the 5th day.

Hope this info helps all....

Sounds like job cuts and restructuring, that's the norm these days. Last week
I told the guy that was waiting on my package that this very subject could be
part of the problem along with the weather. When upper management makes
drastic changes in structure, protocol, procedure, etc., the employees that
remain can band together and try and bring the operation to a halt. They may
band together and do less on purpose, because coworkers have lost their jobs
and duties have been added to their job as part of the new structure. I've seen
these things happen first hand. Eventually though, things get back to the way
they were in due time which is usually not that long.

I'm about to mail a cashier's check to someone. I'd love to do Priority and save
$12 to $15, but I'm afraid instead of getting to it's destination in 2 days, it may
not show up for 2 or 3 weeks. I think I'll go ahead and pay $20 for the Express,
it may still take 2 to 5 days...lol, but at least I'll get my $20 back.

Some of these stories are horrible, packages being lost for weeks at a time
and finally showing up or even worse, not showing up.

USPS has become terrible over the past 90 days. It seems like everything is taking 2-3X more time that it used to.

We've had more missing checks, packages and other items at my business in the past 3 months than we had in the past 4 years combined.

Jerry, funny you mention that about expressing a check. I was faced with that same decision today....lol. Wouldn't you know that the destination now, which always has been overnight before, they now quoted me as 2nd day guaranteed. I kind of grimaced and he asked if I'd rather go with priority, and I told him 'no' because I want the check to get there before next week. He apologized and knew exactly what I meant. :)

I've had exactly the same problems with all Carriers. Their "guaranteed" delivery day is BS.
Unfortunately, this is what we have to deal with.

My package is going to the same address in Cali that
was late using Express Mail the 1st 2 times. That just
happens to be the only 2 times I've ever got a refund
for it not getting there on time...lol

At least this one is just an envelope and not a case full
of nice cues. At any rate, I'll update later and tell whether
this Expressed package made it on time.

Forgive me if this was already mentioned or if it doesn't quite pertain to the issue being discussed on this thread, but....

I would highly recommend against using the "SmartPost" option offered by FedEx.

This is a joint delivery venture between FedEx & USPS that has delayed (considerably) 3 packages that were being sent to me.

When I called FedEx on one of these, the girl recommended against using this service since she had many previous complaints about it. She went as far as saying she thought the name, SmartPost, was not very accurate.

best,
brian kc

All thoughts on shipping are welcome here, as far as I'm
concerned. Possitive or negative, maybe we can all learn
something.

I did see some empty FedEx boxes at the post office the other
day, maybe they were the SmartPost(or Dumbpost)boxes, but
I'm not sure.

Sean, here's a positive update for you. The Express Mailed check
that I sent Monday made it on time by a long shot today.

It was checked in at the post office Monday @ 12:54 PM and was
guaranteed to be delivered in California by 3 PM West Coast time
on Tuesday. The package was signed for at 9:54 AM today. Maybe
this is a sign of things to come, but let's not hold our breath just yet...haha

Gotta give USPS credit again. A cue was Expressed to me Wednesday
from Cali and I picked it up from the post office Thursday @ 2:35.
