Drinking, Smoking, and Shooting?

Assuming you live in a state where recreational marijuana is legal do you play better "smoked up" or after a couple "cock tails"?

From 1987 to 2002, I always thought I played better with a
good marijuna buzz. In fact, I didn't want a pool cue or a golf
club in my hand unless I had a buzz...lol, but each sport just
wasn't the same if I had to play stone cold sober. I actually
refused to play sober back then, I made sure I had a bag of
weed before going to the pool hall or the golf course.

That was then, this is now. I don't mind playing sober these days,
but I prefer to drink at least a few beers just for the sheer enjoyment
of having a few while playing the game. I don't/can't smoke a big
fatty anymore, so alcohol is the only real outlet I have to get a buzz
going while playing pool.

I think a person can play good on either, but play better sober. The
one advantage weed had on alcohol was that you couldn't get too
high to play...lol. I know for sure that you can get too drunk to play,
that's why I try to pace myself if I'm drinking and gambling.

Oh well, the word is out......yes, I used to be a stoner. I'm envious of
Colorado and other places, because it's legal to buy and smoke weed
there. I'm hoping in 10 years or so that it will be legal in all states. Until
then though, I guess I'll just keep fooling myself and act like I enjoy beer
more than pot...haha...sad, but true.

No, I like the rush of adrenaline only while playing. I've played a few guys over the years that seemed to play better when they get their mix right but it's rare & most times the mix is a delicate thing. Playing on the natch only for me, I don't hate $ like some seem to.

It's not legal where I live but I still smoke a little when I play.
I've done it for 30 yrs.. I don't like seeing younger people smoke though.
I think you should have to be at least 30 yrs old, it throws up too many roadblocks for younger people. I haven't drank a drop in 20 yrs. and I can't play a lick while drinking

I enjoy watching more than playing while I'm stoned. For me one shot or a hit or two might loosen me up a bit but I generally play better when I'm sober. If I'm struggling while playing sober that day then yeah I have no problem altering my state of mind real quick ;)

For me there is a window of best play. The window occurs with alcohol and with pot.

1 shot or 2 hits opens the window, just enough to take the edge off.
2-shots of 3 hits closes the window , definitely on the down hill run at that point.

I have never smoked, drank or done a drug in my life so I can't say if it improves or hurts my game. However regarding pot. I have been gambling at pool since the 60's and I can tell you, playing a guy stoned on pot was a always a supreme pleasure.

You never had to worry about him quitting, they seem to just go right off. It certainly killed the "Nit" factor. They seem to be completely unaware of the score and how they are playing. When they win one you would think they won 8 in a row.

I enjoy both but I do not play better while on either...though it sometimes feel like it. Most people I play with regularly partake in something or another and I'm the same at a bar if it's just social or if I feel I need to take an edge off. Bar league or bar tournament, I may drink or smoke as I'm usually there to just enjoy myself and the company. But a real tournament, against real players I know I need my faculties at 100%.

I used to think I played better after a few drinks. At one point I started casually keeping track of how I would do in league. Looking at wins/losses and how many innings I played along with whether or not I had consumed alcohol on that night. My matches were faster and I won more when I was sober, so I mostly stopped drinking when I play.

I'll still have a beer or a shot once in a while at league, but when winning is really important(tournaments, etc.) I'll only play dead sober.

As I say this, I know I sound like an addict justifying usage...I have gone back and forth with this for years. I do think that a minor MJ buzz helps me to focus more on the shot at hand. I think it also calms the nerves under pressure. I THINK I play better.

NOTE: In the end, I don't really care. I do not think it hurts the game for sure, and I enjoy it immensely when shooting stick. I am going to continue to go with it! :)

I enjoy pool more with a light buzz, but I certainly don't play better. I get too focused on my first shot-idea and overlook other (sometimes very obvious) alternatives.

I can't smoke, wish i could but I'd imagine I'd do terrible while stoned.. When i used to smoke my ideas were pretty out there.

I can drink one beer and be ok.. Anything other then that... Forget it.

Sometimes it can be a light switch that gets flipped with each outing. Safety break #1.. shooting great, can't mess up.. safety break #2.. forgot how to play.. on and on. Just like drinking, i try to keep my moderation in moderation. If i really need to play, match up, etc, i want to be as close to sober as possible. For me, the end result will be less rushed shots, more focus and not as many dumb mistakes.

Mental lapses, errors in judgement...there's something special about the feeling you get when you've just made the thinnest of cuts, gone 3 rails with just the right amount of speed to get perfect shape on the next ball...into a pocket that's blocked.

Sober is the way to go but I do loosen up with a jameson on the rocks and a 2 beers every league night. If i do smoke weed which is rare nowadays im kind of hazy with no care in the world so i dont take the game too seriously..

I dont smoke grass so that really does not apply.
I rarely drink alcohol anymore, and not since I started to play pool, usually only a glass of wine or 2 on holidays.I have often wondered if a beer or a shot would help ease nerves but how do you maintain that same state for several hours???
