I have a few sticks I've picked up over the years. I was planning to make one a break stick have another for my play stick and sell the rest. I don't want to mention any brands I have to keep the bias out. I will mostly be playing 8 and one pocket. don't know if a game would determine what stick you use. any thoughts.

Way too little information to go off of so I will stste the obvious. It should be the cue you like the hit most with. Any cue can really be a break cue just add a proper tip. I hate to say this but if you don't have an idea of which cue you should retain than either you don't like any of your cues or you need to go through a learning process of amongst the plethora of subjective cue hit/feel attributes are to your liking.
For example
Weight
Balance
Type of joint , steel wood to wood, other
Butt diameter
Stiffness of shaft and taper
Type of tip and ferrule
Shaft diameter

May take some time and experimentation

Play with the one you make the most balls with. Break with the one that breaks the best. Sell the others!

You will never get the perfect answer here, other than out of luck.

The best stick is the one that works like you expect it to.
