Found some pool balls in an old suit case in upstate New York. Paid $20. Thoughts? A couple of the cue balls look like they could be ivory. Very heavy but I'm no expert.

At $20 you did very good. I don't see any ivory but I see some clay balls and what looks to be break balls. Nice find.

Same here.., great for $20, but I don't see any that's ivory from here.

I havent gone through all the balls but i think i have enough for 2 sets of clay plus extras. The one all brown ball has holes on both sides. No numbers or other marks. I also picked up this retractor. Don't know much about it but it has an address of Boston Mass. Paid $16. Thanks for the info so far. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Its an antique version of a chalk retractor. The chalk extends out on the rope and then retracts back by a spring. Only one I've ever seen.

Killer collection ...looks like something from many eras.
I'll double your money for the whole lot :)

Thanks for the kind words. I'm adding this to my collection:smile:. My ball rack is getting a little full though, might need to get another one.

The one with the 2 holes on each side is from a ball turner, those marks are on ivory cue balls as well.., they look like 2 black dots on white ivory balls..

Here are 2 of the balls that have black dots on opposite sides like you mentioned. I cleaned them up some but my camera isn't the best. A lot of the other cue balls only have 1 dot that is mostly red. Those marks also feel and look like they are filling a hole.

Just clay, I'm 99% sure of that from the pics.., btw what do you want for that chalk retractor?

Im going to keep the retractor. Any idea on its value? Also found these pieces of a cue ball in the bottom of the suit case.

The cue ball with the star on is is from a Hyatt set. These are from the 30's and of clay composition. Nice find!

I'd say probably $50.., $75 on a good day.. Would be a fair price, don't keep it, I even sent ya a green light.., I need that to go with my old chalk collection ;)

Those cue ball pieces doesn't appear to be ivory either :(
