Balabushka... "the quintessential apotheosis " of a career that launched an industry

We have teamed up with Steve Klein to create a series of 4 cues, one for every decade that George has been gone. This is the "quintessential apotheosis of a golden era in cuemaking". These cues will be showcased in Steve's booth at the SBE.

The cues will be numerically recognized as 40-1, 40-2, 40-3 and 40-4. They represent some of George’s best work, and some of his most recognizable work. They will come with a case, which will also be engraved with the cue’s numerical match.

The designs were chosen by Steve, Mark and I for a plethora of reasons, which include rarity, maybe it belonged to a player, or was just one of many of George’s timeless designs. Why did we do this, well to celebrate the cuemakers work, that lets face it, he has in one form or another, inspired many cuemakers, and has left an everlasting mark on cuemaking. Last year, noted Balabushka collector, Denny Glenn came to us, and just could not say enough about Steve’s ability to capture the magic, and in his words, “they are the best Balabushka inspired cues he has seen”. Well I hope Denny see’s these and really appreciates this 4 cue anniversary set. (BTW the selection process of 4 cues took about 4 months of discussions)(about a year of planning)

We spared no expense in creating these cues both in style and accuracy. The materials, the measurements, the “proper” slotted diamonds and all the details we could cover. These cues will amaze the most ardent Balabushka enthusiast. I know some people make take issue with this, however, it is an anniversary special, and we won’t be around to do it again.

So which cues did we do???

First showing…..

Well for starters there is the cue that has an original 1965 reclaimed Burton Spain Brazilian rosewood full splice prong. It maintains the full splice for the majority of the length. The butt sleeve is a traditional large 3 piece acrylic gold and black backend with a very popular Balabushka design.

We will not post finished pics until the week of the show . So you should come to the booth 313 in the ACA Section and check these out in person. PLUS there will be memorabilia there, and a super, super special Bushka.

I will update this thread.. from now until the show with pictures….

These cues should be a treat.......I have so much more regard now for Mr. Klein's cue-making.......I was able to play with my buddy's cue.....Tommy Hill actually played in a special league tournament today only 2 weeks after his surgery......I knew that new cue would get him back on his feet fast.......Tommy has a Klein cue that makes
you weak in the knees......Wow.......Wow.......double wows....One is for looks and the other was for playability......When I read that Steve Klein will be making these cues, it only confirms these cues will not only look tremendous but play stupendous......Can't wait to see these gems.

This is going to be the year of the Balabushkas....we have a lot of early candidates for cue of the year.

One of the has got to be Bava's rare 3 ring butt cue for Jerry R.

Thanks...

This cue choice is very obvious. You see this design, and it screams Balabushka. It is about as Bushka, as there is. The bonus is we had a Spain donor. Just like when we did the Szamboti forearm reuse a few years ago, this was just a perfect fit.

How many cues do you know of that are all actual vintage materials? How many can claim a full splice Brazilian rosewood Spain blank? Look at the diamonds, they look sharp, and robust.

It will have a white with green spec linen wrap.

Very nice Joe. You sure weren't kiddin when you said you had something special coming out.. Wonderful..

Actually going to be some great cues at the show. Not just with us, if Big Ken brings his cues, and KC has his, should be a great Bushka showing.

For those that have asked....

We did NOT do a Mosconi tribute.. reasons are obvious....

We did NOT do a Miz Dove cue.. we know of 1 made already and hear there are at least two more being made.

So these two cues are definitely not coming from our camp :)

Actually, I've got mixed feelings. It would be interesting to see how Steve would handle the Mosconi design. He may have already, but if so, it hasn't been presented on this forum.

But, you're right, a Mosconi design (I don't call it tribute anymore) would derail the thread and create an argument all it's own. Originial materials, dimensions, proportions, color of rings, material of buttsleeve and rings, length and proportion of points, etc, etc.

I guess it's good you haven't included this one. I'ts a bit too convtroversial.

But I have to wonder, "...reasons are obvious..." Why? Too many already existing? One stands above the rest? Mosconi design not elaborate enough? Too much arguing would ensue?

Anyhow, just wondering. This is going to be an incredible series of Bushka designs, and I can't wait to see the rest.

Look forward to seeing the pics... Can't go to the show.
What's going on with this continuing project is more than merely special.
Thanks for sharing!

Joe,
I can't wait to see these cues at SBE and you better have my god damned thesaurus too!!!

The thing I associate MOST with Balabushka cues is their "supposed" playability.

Assuming George had "standard" specifications that he built his cues to, I'd be more interested in hearing what all "his" specs were than in how many or what types of inlays he preferred or used.

I like cues that play well first most...looks don't even play into the equation, unless all other things are equal and the "looks" are thrown in at no additional cost.

FWIW, I'm sure your cues will come out fantastic.

Aloha.

JV and Mark certainly have some awesome cues forthcoming from Steve. I am still drooling over one of them personally lol

And Denny Glenn is certainly very accurate in his comments.

Enough with the pleasantries and fancy shmancy words......how about some more pics for us all to drool over ????????? :D

Before I post the rest of the wood

The capper...

Didn't I mention these all have Ron Thomas cases?
