What do you want to see in SloMo?

I would like to see some pros final strokes. How far the tip is away from the cue ball? Angle to the cue ball. Elevation of cue.

How about the shot when you have a bank(OB is on rail,or very close!!) Cue is lined up so you have to hit the OB full and it seems a double hit from OB is impossible to avoid.

If you know what I mean?
When you look at the shot, it looks impossible,,because the OB is going to hit the cue immediately . But it goes when hit hard!!
I always thought the OB lifted and jumped the cue ball!!

I think Dr Dave has done a number of those in slow motion.

Object ball reaction as cueball strikes it on these 2 shots

Vernon Elliots spotshot reverse cut. Bob Jewett has jig to help execute.

Cross overbank where object ball is sitting just outside corner pocket. Cueball is about 45% angle. Cross object ball to opposite corner. Shot looks impossible.

Per my PM and post in the LD shaft thread, it would be interesting to see both tip/CB close-ups and full shaft views (both from the side) of jump shots at different angles and tip positions with both an LD shaft and a jump cue with a phenolic tip. I would like to better understand why it is difficult to jump the ball with an LD shaft (especially at smaller angles and jump heights where one might use a regular shaft instead of a jump cue, for example to jump over the edge of a ball).

Another thing I've always wanted to see is an extreme close-up view of the tip hitting the CB with fast speed close to the miscue limit in super-slow-motion (as slow as possible). It would be nice to see a comparison of soft, hard, short, and tall tips. The goal here is to clearly see how well the tips grabs the ball (and whether there is any slip at all; although, I'm pretty sure there should be no slip whatsoever), how the tips deform during contact, how the contact time varies, and how much the tip moves sideways while still on the ball.

Thanks,
Dave

I agree with Dr. Dave. To see actual contact with different tips for center hit & with english. (& that side ways swipe stroke) If we can learn something more about actual contact connection & possible variations thereof & time that would be a good thing that might help some & maybe help some to understand just how important that brief moment is.

Looks like we're off to a good start. Thanks for all the ideas. Keep them coming!

I've updated the first post with a list to help me stay organized. This is going to be fun!

I've never been cut in my life...well except for that time when a piece of sheet metal caught me on the cheek & I needed 2 very small stitches.

If you're going to do it I think you should do something of importance like what I & Dr. Dave suggested but I understand.

So... I now vote for the slow mo break shot by Shanelle.

Maximum draw with a very short back stroke ( 1-2 inches )
Looking to see cue speed at contact, how long the tip stays in contact with the cue ball and how much the cue slows while in contact or is it still accelerating?
Looking for at least table length draw.

pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease, oh please, oh please, oh please.
can you shoot a few different shots that show a double hit please. I'm about ready to punch this guy in the throat who refuses to believe or understand that not only is it very difficult but at his banger level IMPOSSIBLE to shoot the shot he's shooting without double hitting the ball.

I've asked him "how could you not feel that?", "how did you get the cue to go forward while shooting down?" and how on earth did he get his cue out the way with a follow stroke/shot? and all he does is get mad.

last night i was giving him 5-1 on the money and he did while using the bridge, i wanted to javelin him with my cue but just told "go ahead" after he saw me shaking my head and he asked "what, that was a foul?"

oh btw, it was a race to 7, i beat him 7-5 and collected my $5. with that kind of money on the line you can understand why i didn't want to loose my cool being down 0-3

FYI, there are already a ton of examples online dealing with various double-hit situations. They can all be found here:

double hit foul resource page

Next time you see the banger, make him watch these.

Good luck,
Dave

thank dave, i have your dvds and planned on slamming him with information overload combining the two

BTW, the "follow jump shot" would have to be follow, not just the momentum of the cueball going forward after contact. I mean the ball is spinning forward.

Otherwise the follow jump shot is not really follow. You can follow a ball with draw too if you hit it softly enough and it start rolling before it reaches the object ball.
