Earls strange glasses

What ever happened to Earls glasses? Does he still use them and what were/are they anyway?

He traded the glasses in for ear muffs lol

I believe Earl said at one time said they were definitely shooting glasses. There was a thread somewhere about these.

As much as I love watching him play, he really comes up with some goofy shit.

Someone should make a t-shirt, with Earl on it, wearing his:
Ankle weights
Arm weights
Finger extensions
Earmuffs
Shooting Glasses
And his 8 ft Javelin....LOL.

And the caption could read: Jump Sticks? .... We don't need no stinkin Jump Sticks.

We've got experienced target shooters on AZ who can probably answer this better, but my understanding is that the glasses' tint increases the contrast your eyes perceive. Maybe he thought it helped see the edge of the balls better? OMG, Earl's looking at the edge of the balls...and we all know what that means!

I think the contrast/clarity comment was right on. All the same benefits espoused in the HD Vision Wraparounds- As Seen On TV ads.

The name of the glasses Earl Strickland was wearing is: EYELIGHTS.

Here's a quote from Earl at the time he was wearing them: By stimulating the weaker side of the brain you allow it to become stronger, thus improving overall performance both mentally and physically. Eyelights can be used by anyone since everyone has one side of the brain that functions at a higher level than the other. Eyelights are being worn by children with learning disabilities in order to keep them more attentive and focused in the classroom. Athletes are wearing Eyelights to increase performance on the field or to push through a plateau. Anyone can wear Eyelights to deal more effectively with stress, depression, or neurological disorders. Let Eyelights take you Beyond Limitation!

I have an astigmatism, with my right eye being weak in the sun, left eye strong. In the dark, my right eye is stronger and my left is weak. I'm left eye dominant. I find driving/shooting glasses help my eyes work together properly without the need for "corrective" lenses.

There is a reason old guys play golf and one pocket, their eyes are not what they use to be. Earl is trying to hold on as long as possible, hence his choice in accouterments, IMHO.

I used to ski a lot years ago, and that is correct, they have yellow goggles to make the contrast better to see the snow. When I saw him wearing those yellow things, it brought me back to my skiing days, funny association but first thing I thought about when I saw him with the glasses. I think I may still have my old goggles somewhere, wonder what they will make the table look like.

Thanks JAM,
I don't remember those being anything other than shooting glasses. Interesting glasses for sure.

That has to be an older photo,(8yrs) he's got the Cuetec patch on his arm.
They parted ways in '07.

Post #2 is the closest I have heard to why he does not wear them anymore. Earl told me himself that he had played position on the wrong ball and shot at the wrong ball at times. The tint made other balls look like the one ball or the 9 ball at a glance,

He does that to draw attention to himself. Like many pool players, myself included, he's very insecure. The deeper the insecurity, the more outrageous the gimmicks.
Although he's been doing this for a long time my guess is that one day he'll implode, and the the next time you'll see him will be at an Arby's, working as a day manager. :)
