How do we create consistency in our pool game?

We must have the flexibility 2 explain the same thing in a variety of different ways

Best post in this thread so far. Kudos for being well wriitten.

Yes, it is well written, and even so there will be those that take offense for some reason. I have studied linguistics more than half my life and the fact of the matter is, people read into the written word what they choose. This isn't necessary to conceive the message, simply a perception of a projection (so to speak).

I have given hundreds of hours of lessons in the last two years and no two student learns the same way. We must have the flexibility to explain the same thing in a variety of different ways before they will "click" and understand both mentally, and physically. I do the same thing on this forum and it confuses a few people, especially when they already have a bias against me for some personal reason.

It's okay, and expected, so I will continue to attempt to help those that want to sample my knowledge.....and for those that don't, I guess you'll just have to suffer though reading all my posts. ;) 'The Game is the Teacher'

.....I have studied linguistics more than half my life...You have got to be kidding ????????...And you STILL write, and compose your thoughts the way you do ?

....We must have the flexibility to explain the same thing in a variety of different ways before they will "click" and understand both mentally, and physically. Yes, you certainly have 'variety'..When something is explained properly..ONCE should be enough !

I will continue to attempt to help those that want to sample my knowledge...and for those that don't, I guess you'll just have to suffer though reading all my posts. ;) 'The Game is the Teacher'

Thanks, but no thanks !...I maxed out on all I can learn from you, in your very first short post !
..The other 10,000 posts, have just been rinse and repeat !!! :(

Snooker players

CJ, I've watched a number of snooker players and their stance seems to be a little different than say a 9 ball player. Is this just something they learned during their formative years or does it really make a difference. What's your thought?

My stance is a hybrid of the snooker and pocket billiard stance. I'm open to the shot and feel like I'm "shooting out of my chest," with the left foot parallel to the shot line. My right foot is 45 degrees, as opposed to the snooker players who are closer to the shot line's angle.

I would suggest trying a more open stance to get a clearer view of the shot, and it also keeps your head more square which takes the stress off the neck and back.

I changed my stance after my first Pro tournament in Toronto, and I'm glad I did. My stance is also more balance than it used to be, with my knees slightly flexed and weight evenly distributed.

Play Well

He does think he's smarter than everyone else

lol. I actually played Lou once in a US Open. I believe I beat him 4 games to 1 and sent him to the losers side.

When he was asking what I would give him last year I told him I would spot him 10-7 for a substantial amount. He called me a lock artist for only offering him that amount. I am sure if we were on good terms and I gave him 10-5 and the breaks he would step up and play me for $10 a game.

Lou's never been known to have much heart when it comes to pool gambling. He does think he's smarter than everyone else though, although I doubt if he'd bet on it. ;)

why there is so much resistance by "the 6".

Creating consistency in your pool game is about repeatability in all aspects.
1. A consistent PSR that does not waver no matter how difficult or easy the shot, no matter the game you play.
2. Repeatable fundamentals from your stance & footwork to how you align yourself to the shot & fall on the ball.
3. Repeatable break, making a ball & controlling the rock in the COT in rotation or taking balls towards your hole & parking the rock against the rail at the second diamond behind the rack in 1 pocket.
4. A repeatable stroke, probably the most important of all.

There are many here that harangue CJ, especially over what he calls & markets TOI. I've commented on this before & will here again. CJ didn't invent TOI, nor does he claim that he did. It's a style of play that was a staple of many former road players back when matches could last anywhere from 12 hours to 3 days. It's beauty is its simplicity, it doesn't look flashy so it doesn't attract attention when in a strange hall in a strange town playing strangers for their $. It's kind of vanilla, plain looking. It's about delivering your shots with the same stroke, same aiming point & same speed of stroke shot after shot. The premise being when you're playing someone who spins the ball a lot that in long matches from 12 hours to several days the player that spins the ball a lot will tire in time & his game will break down, that spin that worked so wonderfully for him will now leave him long, or short, or trapped behind a ball. Meanwhile you're tired too but your game doesn't break down, same aiming point, same speed of stroke, same shot every shot, it's consistent, repeatable which is its beauty in those situations.

As I stated in the beginning of this post many harangue CJ over this seemingly attempting to purport that there is no value in this.

I actually was a little unnerved when I found this site & saw him marketing this as I play this style, have for a long time & felt he was marketing something many players that knew this kept close to the vest. After reading so many flame him for it, call it foolishness & ignore it I had to smile. I realized even though he was attempting to bring something to everyone that a small group tried to keep quiet for so long that it didn't matter. The hecklers couldn't see the forest for the trees anyway. Life's funny like that sometimes.

What I find more interesting that as a former road agent, gambler & pro tourney player was trying to give something of substance & value to the pool world, also having the rep to make his info credible that there's a dedicated group that just loves to try to discredit it but that they offered nothing else, no attempt to bring to others some kernel of knowledge that was helpful to those CJ attempts to help, all they offer is their disdain.

This is well written, and speaks volumes to why I'm on this forum -

and also why there is so much resistance by "the 6".

This is well written, and speaks volumes to why I'm on this forum -<--Your credentials, for determining if anything is "well written", are non-existent !..They are always based on whether or not the 'writer' agrees with, or is flattering you ! (ie; Mr.Bunter, Mr.Eye, or Mr.Rose)
-and also why there is so much resistance by "the 6" ?

Hahahahahahahahaha

(excuse me, isn't it more like 6,000 ;))

Very good point Mr. Dude !...After reading/enduring one of Mr.Wiley's posts, I can't help myself..."Imaginary" is always the first word that pops into my head, just as it is with the other 11,475 intelligent members ! :grin-square:

PS..Although, sometimes it can be a close call, between "Unbelievable" and "Ridiculous"!

It is all about proper practice, nothing more. Not TOI, not hammer stroke, not hitting with the elbows, and so on.

It's is a structured practice routine that is the key. Knowing what needs to be practiced, knowing how to practice what's needed to improve.

It is truely about Hitting a Million Balls. The more you do it successfully, the more consistent you become. It's doesn't matter what style of play is used.

It is hard work, dedication, and honesty about your skill level that will help one improve. It is just that simple.

That's saying someone can become a concert pianist by just "hitting a million keys".

Or a master chess player by "moving a million pieces".....or becoming a world renowned artist by paining a million barns. LoL

Notice his first sentance talks about 'proper practice', but I guess until you get ready to ship your new upcoming tape called TOP (touch of practice) that you feel its ok to make fun of things other say. All the while acting like a victim and talking about your "haters", when others do the same thing to you.

You must develop muscle memory.
Has someone mentioned that already? I haven't looked at all the responses. It's Saturday night and I'm waiting for Star Trek to come on the TV, and I'm just to lazy to check.
Muscles have memories, albeit little ones. When the brain wants a group of muscles to do something it sends a signal telling said muscle group what to do. If this muscle grouping has never done what the brain wants it to do it will still try to perform the request, but in all likelihood will fail.
If, however, this muscle group has practiced the task prior to the command being made, then, when asked, it will recall the task and perform it. The more practiced the muscle group, the better the performance.
It's just like sex. The more you do it, the better you get at it. That is, until you need glasses. :)

It just dawned on me:) I finally realized why you pick on "THE CJ"! You're jealous because the only 3 things you can do in life is-
#1-deliver boxes
#2-play pool at a "fairly" high level(a looooooooong time ago anyway)
#3-pick on "THE CJ" because he can actually "teach"!

You're jealous of the man because he can do a countless other things in life where you have your "3"!

You know I'm very confident that if you asked " THE CJ" for help in any other aspect in life besides the only "3" things you do "ok" at, I'm sure " THE CJ" would be willing to help!

P.S. how are you and your bestie Hilary doing in the social ladder of society?

Let it go SJD, maybe at one time in your life you had something, but your too old sir! Let it go! Your days are basically numbered, go find some of the bar maids and "try" to do something fun with them. Your efforts to belittle "THE CJ" are just attempts to nothingness for you!

Here's the deal, he outplays your every move! Let it go! And if you want to be a contributor instead of a pain the ass, then let it go!

Share some stories, the good and the bad;) let's look at YOUR life and show us what there is to appreciate about "The Great SJD"!

Let it go, your playing efren 1hole and he needs 1, 5 balls in front of his hole and you're cornerhooked -4! You're still trying?? For what?? Next game buddy, this time maybe a different plan;)

I guess practicing creating a bigger target zone, and improving your acceleration at impact isn't "proper practice"? This is what TOI and the wrist/finger motion does, it's pretty simpler.

We have a wide variety of practice tools that enable the player to widen their playing horizons so they can see what the champions are familiar with. I'm always happy to share what I know and have learned, although it will bother "you know who". LoL

There is very little left in life for SJD now, other than harass the man he wished he could be! So sad...

Can you imagine using a ghost ball?

I guess that's the only way you could use a ghost ball.....to imagine it. LoL

Just can't imagine betting my money on the ability to see a ghost.
