Profit margin on tables. What did you pay vs. "list"

What did you pay for your new table vs. list price? What is ballpark profit margins the dealers have?

My parents insist on a furniture style table, so i'm looking at Brunswick Glenwood for them with Simonis 760. Also if anyone has any inputs on this table.

I think a furniture table is a waste of money. The INSTANT you have it, you can't sell it for 20% of what you spent.

A Diamond sells for 75%+ on the used market
 
I am expecting to take a $400-$600 loss on a gold crown I am about to sell from what I paid 6 years ago. Seems ok to me to pay $100 or less a year for my own table.
 
thanks for the data on furniture resale value. getting a furniture table is out of my hands. it's unfortunately gotta be one. with that being said, what's the profit margin on one? 25%? 50%?
 
Doesn't Diamond make some furniture style tables? Are they as bad as the usual furniture table?

Diamonds look pretty furniture-y due to the wood rails. Maybe you should at least run the idea by them to see if they go for it.

Diamond does make a few furniture table models. One of the table mechanics put up some great pictures of one a year ago or so. They would be a way better purchase than any other furniture style table. The price is great also I think they were under 3k brand new

Def look into that before going for another brand.

Also, you are buying directly from the factory. There is no reseller taking a huge profit markup.

Here is the Diamond website. You can see the pictures of the 5 home style table models they have on the home page. You can order them in any wood or finish you like. Note, the Paragon is about 8K. But the other home table style models are way way way cheaper (I think the 3K range). Good luck!

The profit margin for a dealer selling a new one is about the same as the depreciation the first month you own it. In other words, bring it home and its now worth a little less than what the dealer paid wholesale. Let it sit covered for 5 years and it drops another big chunk.
If you must go furniture, find a barely used one at less than half the retail of new. Chances are it won't even need new cloth.
 
great advice all. i agree 100%. unfortunately they want the frilly wood, with the ball and claw legs, etc. to be honest, i've been looking at used market for 3 years, promising my dad the same, that i'll find one that looks in new condition for half price. however, every one i find has dinged and scratched rails, maybe an issue or two on top of this. plus nothing is close (kind of live in the sticks), and we'd be looking at close to 1,000 shipping. so he's been trooper having patience with me to find a used one, but his patience understandably is run out, and he gave the order to get a new one. so i don't want to get robbed by stealer. i'm not a cheapskate, and always give a reasonable profit, but want to know approx their cost to prevent leaving too much money on the dealer side. thanks

No dealer that actually knows the margins is gonna tell you what they are. Cause that's just stupid.
I will tell you that on average the better known the brand is the lower the dealer margins are.
Brunswick is pretty well known.

i'm not asking for a dealer to reply. of course that would be stupid. dealer has their agenda, but buyers/players have theirs. but there are folks that probably previously worked at a reseller, or had a conversation with a guy who used to work in it, etc. must be folks on the board who either got great deals themselves or have some idea of the markup. not everyone, but some. i'm sure a dealer would almost never sell a table for a loss, so if someone paid 3k on a 5k table, then that also gives some information.
 
Look at the Diamond site I linked above! They have the ball and claw feet models you want. They will be better than any comparable model from another manufacturer (that is home style not commercial). And don't let the pictures on their site fool you... They will build you a table in any wood species you want and any finish you want. You have to call them for pricing.
 
I would think like any retail markup, 40- 50% is the rule thumb. I am betting you can get at least 20% knocked off the price.
 
What makes the lower end furniture tables of diamond better than brunswick? also, i know i have local brunswick dealers, but i didn't see a link for diamond dealers. who would setup and service my table if i went with a diamond?

also still hoping for more info on prices paid new vs. list

i'm between baltimore and philly area, in case anyone knows of a place with a good selection of used tables

Just get one off craigslist and pay a table mechanic to set it up.

Tons of tables for sale all the time on craigslist, although almost all want crazy prices since they "paid $4,000" and now want $2,000 even though you can find any number of better tables for that much or less.

I got an 8' Olhausen table free on craigslist, cost me about $500 to rent a truck to get it, new Simonis and setup. A new table will run you about $1,500 or a cheap one.
 
Like recommended by some, I personally would not buy a new furniture style table. I would spend a few months persuading the parents into a Gold Crown or a Diamond Pro Am. :)

If it was a furniture table or no table after those months of persuasion, you should look at used, as those tables depreciate so rapidly. Looking at the Glenwood, this table starts at $3419 Retail (and is probably the 7' price). There is no way in the world I would get that when a Gold Crown used can be had for a couple grand or a bit more depending on model/condition etc... The GCIV being my favorite as it's pockets are flush with the top of the table/casting. New tables, the GCV is ludicrous compared to Diamond's pricing. So new, I would get the Pro Am in a nice furniture color.
