TITLIST conversion question ???

I am interested in having a titlist converted to a playing cue. My question is , can you make a titlist with a wrap / wrap groove on it into a wrapless cue? I only play with wrapless cues an it seems there are many more wrapped titlist cues to convert than wrapless ones. The cue I am interested in it is oz+ heavier than i would like and it seems the wrap groove on the old cue is not very deep, so if the cue were sanded down to become wrapless it would still maintain a good weight for me

Just to reiterate- I'm asking can the cue be sanded down to the diameter of the wrap groove and still be a "normal" size diameter to play with. All you titlist guys please chime in... thanks!

Yes.

The more work you need done to the blank, the more you'll spend converting it.
 
The leather wrap grooves on the 2 piece willie hoppe cues are cut very deep. Much deeper than most modern cues. I had one once that was over 1/8" deep. This makes the thinner end of the wrap goove less than 1" in diameter and closer to the diameter of a modern joint +/- .840" This means that the points have to be pushed way up into the forearm near the joint and a new handle must be added to make it normal length for a butt (+/- 29"). For wrapless conversions, it is usually better/easier to use a titlist house cue rather than a 2 piece willie hoppe... unless you don't mind the look of the tips of the points being right next to the joint

This is also sometimes done to achieve the proper joint diameter. If you dont add a doweled tenon and butt sleeve to move some of the 'meat' up towards the joint, some blanks would end up with a joint in the 5/8 range.
Ive seen one done this way by a top maker. It was at the customers insistence, and of course the cue played very soft with a such a small joint. The cuemaker didnt want to sell it, but again the customer was a friend and returning customer who was fine with it.
 
It depends on the blank. If this is done, usually, the resulting cue would be rather thin.
 
If it measures out right in the right places then YES if it doesn't then you have to choose between wrapped or short spliced.....in my humble opinion
 
I have done dozens of these

And each one was different. It depends on how deep the wrap is cut, what the cue diameter measures, and how straight is the butt.
