I like Karen and respect her game. I've sat and had a drink with her, and she is a great gal and a riot to be around. However I and I'm sure some of the players on JPNEWT wish she would find another way to pocket an extra 5k a year. Johnnyt

I agree..,

I had a long talk with a good friend of mine about that last night and she feels that its nice to play the Pro's from time to time, but she would rather play them in major events not in regional tournaments where she feels she should be playing against ladies at similar skill levels.

,

Karen can't stay away or retire from the Pechaur tournaments - where else can she earn the equivalent of an $8.50 per hour job, and only have to show up for work a few weekends out of the year?

Sadly, when talking about the money to be made playing pool, I can make facetious comments like "equivalent to an $8.50 per hour full time job" and be almost exactly correct. Karen Corr, one of the best female players of recent history, has current winnings of $9,910 for the first seven months of 2015; extrapolated out to a full year, that would equal $16,988, or about $8.50 per hour for a normal 2,000 hour per year job.

Hopefully she has other income from somewhere, because $8.50/hour and $17k per year just doesn't leave much for frivolities like food, clothing and shelter.

Oh, wait, that $17k is about what Social Security pays a large group of single elderly individuals, and they have to live on it somehow.

Come to think of it, pool tournament winnings are not covered by Social Security when calculating future benefits, so Karen (if a U.S. citizen) would actually be better off in terms of retirement benefits by going to work somewhere that pays into SS and earns her that whopping $8.50/hour wage.

she did dodge a bullet this last one though cause the lady she played in the finals let her off the hook. Kind of falls back to the whole "the rolls tend to favor the stronger or favored player more times than not, as the weaker player all most always does something that lets that player back in after being up or looking like they are going to win"

I actually recall the quote as follows:

"the rolls tend to favor the stronger or favored player more times than not, as the weaker player all most always does something that lets that player back in after being up or looking like they are going to win or even sometimes the weaker player gets nervous and jumpy which sometimes leads to a miscue or a poorly played shot, or they get so anxious they play with the wrong end of the cue or because they know they can't win they will pretend to be disinterested in the game and constantly pretend to be texting someone or they might just forfeit."

Or something like that.
