U.S. Open update

No I sure didn't as I was frustrated cause I didn't really want to get no one in trouble nor did I want any discounts or whatever I just wanted to get off phone. I thought I had the right place ( as per OPEN website ) so I provided her with as much info as I could - at the end I even asked her " but you do have a large area for conventions and the like thought right? " that's when she said no but I should try the Loft , that was prob it cause the loft is owned by Sheraton. Lol If you are really concerned about it prob a fair chance if you were to call right now u mat get same girl, although a second call for the same thing in such a short period of time may actually cause her to look at her computer, book of events, OR EVEN ASK someone else since she doesn't know lol. I know this is not a big deal, I just don't want to deal with it that's all. I had morons aggregating at hotel last year when I went to SBE. But tanks anyhow for the info, see ya down there!

Tony, this is par for the course at many hotels I've worked with over the years. The employees are the last to know anything!

Yes I know, I encounter it every day that I leave the house. But why? Don't need to be rocket scientist but why not just a tiny tiny bit of common sense? I believe while there def are some people that are truly stupid, I believe honestly it is just a matter of laziness. I blame that on the mid level managers that are tasked with day to day operations of any business. They are charged with staffing/ training staff so the question then becomes are they incompetent or lazy?

Barry’s checklist:

X $75K added money
_ $84K entry fees
_ 128 entries (27 to date)
_ Sheraton prepaid by SEP 1
_ TD & refs prepaid
_ SVB’s past due paid
_ AZBers’ VIP seats reimbursed
_ No hitches

When this checklist is complete, then he deserves “credit where due”.
Do not discount what numerous AZBers did to get this “40th Anniversary Open” back on the right track & the (other) 5 foreign players paid in FEB. Until then, as consumers, we’re hedging our bets till the money’s on the light, cause we’re not being paid to promote him….

Shane was paid long ago.

did anyone inform you of the nearby construction that was scheduled to take place during the Open & the off-site parking garage limitations & their $20/day costs? just FYI, since you're planning on coming down in an RV.

Oh one other thing. There will be a parade down Main St. in Norfolk the day before the tournament starts to honor Barry Behrman. I will be the baton twirler leading the parade (I always wanted this job) and behind me will be the Norfolk high school band, followed by 128 naked virgins, each one dancing with one of the tournament players. I'm excited that Barry added this to the pre-tournament festivities.

That's pretty cool Jay! I know they always try and get rid of the tables after the tournament, so I figured they would do the same with the virgins. Silly me....then I realized they would be dancing with pool players, so there isn't much chance of any virgins left after the parade.

No not at all. Shouldn't be a huge deal though as I can just tow my car behind me and usually can always find somewhere to park although cities can be tough. One thing I did just notice however was in the link provided it lists the Open dates as 10-22-----10-30. I thought I read on here 24th- the 30th? Maybe its just for the discount for early arrival workers for set up?
Oh yeah the link did mention $5 parking for Open guests but I'm sure that's just for autos.

The Open is from the 25-30 with the player's meeting the 24th.

Sorry sir, but I got it from the horse's mouth (SVB). Perhaps your source is not as well informed. :p

Line sir please!!!! ☺ This prop bet is already being tossed around in my circle but I honestly would love to bet but have no idea where the odds are ( if any ) at this point and would like to lock it in now if at all possible thanks. And yes while maybe crazy i!m still with my boy Shane!!!!

Chris Russell, head of Sales, at the Sheraton just sent me these 2 links for anyone to use that is having trouble booking the rooms:

OK Roberta thank you so much for your help, much appreciated. But as I had mentioned even before the snafu on the phone I was on the on the fence completely between renting a suite or coming in my motorhome. ( For the record as it may be pertinent in this, I have a 40' Holiday Rambler class A rig and I will be towing 25' - this may contain EITHER a car on trailer or a boat. I will also have motor bikes on board either way. While I have not called Chris ( cause I'm sure his main concern would be booking the suite ) if o were offered an acceptable deal I'm which the Sheraton would reasonably accommodate me, my rig, and my guests I would be inclined to come on down and bring 5 very high rollers with me ( I know no casino but we would prob buy out the bar ourselves not mention the the money we will be pumping into the pool scene - please read between the limes ) please let me know. At this point after reviewing them links ( thanks again ) I am 99% sure the rv is the best for me. I will at least be there by myself with a girl but figured no harm on asking. Thanks girl!¡!,

My odds-Shane is 6-1. (100 man field or better)

From the floor plan I've been shown, the seating arrangements for this year's Open look to be excellent. A lot more room at the Sheraton.
Of course the best laid plans of mice and men...............

As he should have Jay, but Roberta was the one that was catching hell from the fans, no one could find Barry to ask him why he chose to do this and not compensate 40 chairs for the fans.

Because he waited until the last second and moved 20 seats on the third row that costed myself $195.00 for the week, along with two of my friends sitting beside me, that's $3900.00 dollars on each row x's Two Rows, one row on each side that basically disappeared at the very last minute so others who paid $10.00 admissions for their seating could see the TV table, He basically told Roberta to handle it after he made this last minute decision, myself contacted Roberta earlier this year and asked if any compensation would be considered or made for the losses that we took, nothing ever came from it, as we all 3 had purchased our tickets when they first went on sale, we got nothing in return for our dedicated efforts to pay for these seats months before the tournament even started. No need to mention that my two friends and my self won't be purchasing any special seats in the future. (No Trust) is the bottom line here, that was a lot of money and a lot of unhappy fans that basically had to get up from their paid chairs and go scramble to find a $10.00 admission seat in the fully crowded stands. Wishy Washy last minute decisions are not good for any business, He should have left those chairs alone, now I'm struggling to get my friends to come back this year. I understand it's a lot of pressure to organize something like this, but 40 years of doing it should give you the knowledge to get it right by now, (Ah Hell, Let's Just Have a Few Drinks and Not Stress About It) Totally Wrong.

I will discuss this with Barry. You guys should be comped this year imo.

Wow, you beat me to it. Shane is definitely the odds on favorite, but the Chinese contingent changes the whole equation. There will also be a large Filipino contingent as well (probably 12 or more). I was going to put Shane at 5-1, but it could go higher, say 6 or 8 to 1. If someone wants to offer 10-1 then I would take (I can't) Shane all day and all night. He's well prepared and well motivated and it feels like his home court. Plus he loves the equipment. At 5-1 you're gambling, so there you have it. I like your number.

There will be at least two dozen players capable of knocking Shane off and I don't expect him to get through unscathed this year. In Asia they don't perceive him as the best player in the world, just the best American.
