Anyone who had been interested in the dust collection chamber it's finally done...

Please watch the 3 minute video of a 860-775 taper cut...

The box is "semi" universal various mounting slots and rubber sweeps that you can cut for your own opening styles (I use one set for shafts, one for 1.3 stocks, and one for dowels) Original design was built around a Deluxe Cuesmith lathe (Hightower).

Site is now up however it is still under construction ;) details and information on the boxes can be found there!

Nice job Buddy. I have been playing about with a couple of different designs myself.

Believe it or not, one included a tin juice can. Pretty rudimentary but it worked ok.

Just didn't look all that purdy.

I do believe that I am interested in one of these.

If you have any questions let me know (contact page on the site works best!)
Thanks,

That will save lungs and lives.
Great work.
I recommend attaching the hose to a Cyclone type dust collector with 1 micron or better filter.

Better yet pipe the dust straight out the wall. No filter needed.

Even better!

Currently I just use a dust deputy and my shop vac with a hepa filter, and it works great (I dId seal around the shop vac better with compression rubber)...quite suprise how well the small dd cyclone works. Building a box to control the noise for the shop vac and I might steal your idea Chris and exhaust the box out the window!

Thanks everyone for the comments and support!

The only problem with shooting it out the window is that if your neighbors live only 11 feet away like mine do....Then they breath in the dust when it's running.

If you use a cyclone can to catch most of it and leave a new filter in the shop vac would only the health nasty ultra fines be exhausted outside or would the filter plug up quickly anyway and defeat the purpose of using a chip collector?

If one can believe the claims of the Rockwell cyclone can, the filter in the shop vac will be spared from plugging for a long time.

This would be a good addition prior to the wall vent. Happy neighbors.

I have been using a the small cyclone (DD) for most of the year with a hepa filter in the vac and it works wonders....IF you make sure you don't forget to empty your catch container before it becomes to full! :banghead: once it's full it has no where to go but into the vac thus making the filter work 10x as hard. I was skeptical at first but its one of the best things in my small shop.

Working on the 2nd design now.... This one is hopefully going to add some control to the coring process....Wish me luck lol
