64 top players playing 9 ball rack your own (even though a refs at each table), alt break with SINGLE elim. They should call it "The Crap Shoot From Qatar". I'll be up early for though.. Johnnyt

I suggest them to change the format to winners break race to 11 from last 64 and on,with semis and finals race to 21...........
but its just me

no sh!t. Most of these clowns in here don't understand this concept though.
But Neils is a world class player and defending Champ and didn't even make it to the final 64, so what does that say?Individual matches might be a crap shoot, but anyone that wins the tournament most will no doubt be a world class player and have played the best at the tournament.
Having to win 5 straight race to 11 vs some of the world's best and then another race to 13 on the final.. That is like winning a long race to 68, but much much more intense.

I'm not griping, and I also pay for the streams that I watch but I don't know if that comment was directed towards me. Let's say Ko Pin Yi wins this tournament, is he declared best in the world right now since he also won the WPA World 10 Ball championship earlier this year or is he declared the best in the tournament? He had his chance with the double elimination race to 9 alternate break. He went 1-2 in his bracket. What it says is that he didn't play his best.

It's a 9-ball tournament, so its a flawed game. Can't expect everything to be perfect. 19-0 New England patriots lost to a wild card N.Y Giants. Serena Williams(21 grand slams winner) lost to a nobody in the U.S open semi's.
Sure changing it to race to 15 would be better, but it is what it is. Sometimes the lesser player will prevail in an indvidual match, but the winner of the tournament will be the best at the tournament and earns the title World 9-ball Champion.
Watch the tournament, enjoy the free stream and quit the griping...

Tell me again when the last time someone won 3 w9b championships in a row again? Or how about 2... ohhhhh only ever 1....
Tell me again about these players who excel under these conditions???
The reality is that with the caliber of players at the w9b and the alternate break rack your own format, it's a crap shoot and any of the 64 are capable of winning it.
You want to know who the best players in the world are look at who consistently finish virtually EVERY tourney they enter in the top 5...That's who the best are...

In a U.S. open or DCC type turny the field is so watered down you don't get the continued trip of monster players ,, that's why you have several multiple winners it's much harder to repeat in a shorter race single elimination grade 1 turney
US open is a grade 3
It's realy pretty easy to understand
1
Humm that's a pretty hard one let me think oh I got it ,, he didn't play as good as he did before ,

So are you discrediting the past W9B champs that won when it was a race to 17? Since it's much harder to repeat in shorter races and all...
Oh and speaking of single elimination, Shane won his 3-peat being undefeated, without ever going to the one-loss side.
Last year had Feijen, Geronimo, Souquet, Busty, Efren, Li HeWen, Rota, Hohmann, Nick E, Kiamco, Nick VDB, Mika, Albin, Peach, Wang Can, Babica, Orcollo, Boyes....etc, what are you talking about no continued trip of monster players? With the exception of the taiwanese, thats a world class field. Stop with the nonsense.
He seams to play better in the world events , and MC where he's a 3 time MVP some players are just like that but no player plays is best all the timeBut he's a WPA world 9 ball champion, he should beat anyone. He went through a single elimination format with race to 7. How come he's never won a US Open since its so easy?
There's 200 dead money players in the open ,, ,, several top world players skip the U.S. open ,, if we were using let's say the new Fargo system to rate the field the U.S. open would be substantialy behind ,,,
