Here's the best I can do for ya
If what you say is true (not doubting you), then ordering BB cues for flipping would not make much sense.
I agree that Tony and Donnie deserve the respect they have earned.
This is very true , it doesn't make sense because the cues you see for sale are not from "flippers". They are from people who either have the right to sell their cue, or just want to upgrade because they see the new cues as well as technology change and they need to get their money back to get a new one not every one is wealthy and guys invest in BB. Or a guy that just may have a change of mind.
There is no list, Tony and Donnie decide if they wil make a cue for you. They always do as they say it's a no BS operation. Funds up front and delivery on time. They build trust with their clients not enemies which is why many buy from them. It is a status symbol too just like another poster said comparing Rolex to Timex. Some guys and girls like that stuff. But in the end Tony will go down as a cue maker no one could touch an the greatest in the world. Some will agree to disagree but no one yet has beat their work or "original designs no copies". They spend days weeks months sometimes countless hours on original cad cam drawings to design a cue. That time is money. Everything is made in house down to the rubber bumper. Precious metals are obtained and cut to precision. At the end of the day there are many who can afford it and do so, there are many who can afford it but refuse to spend that much, and there are those who can't afford it. But just like in any sport or hobby like it or not there's the low end, the middle or close to top, and the top. Just like in cars people are like I would never spend $300k+ on a Ferrari ? But there any many who do. It's all what someone wants and desires. As long as there is a market, wealth, investor or someone who works hard that can, there will be fine items in every sport or hobby.
1-3 months for a African Blackwood cue is common depending on their work load because one is always in development. Big 8point cues are 3-8 months depending on work load but some cues take way longer.
Tony and Donnie are making 8-10 African Blackwood cues a year on average and Tony now wishes to only make 3 fancy 8 point cues a year, he prob won't be making basic or semi fancy 8points any longer. His 8pt cues will start at $20,0000.00 and go to six figures. The African Blackwood cues are starting around $12k with a great design fancier than any cues in the past and go up from there to the $18k.
There are many here that are use to rare lists, getting a cue for $5k and flipping for $10-11-12-13k. Some never get a cue and a maker has a list the size of a dictionary in his shop???. But at the end of the day these cue makers are great, imagine if they said F this list I'm making a cue for who the hell I want. Increased their pricing to close the gap on flipping but still allowing some room for their client to be safe on their investment. It will send the flipper packing, if someone did flip they can score a little, but it would separate a guy who is loyal and really wants that makers work or cue from someone who just wants the money. People can say it won't be rare no more?? So be it, business is business it worked for them for over 30 years but their product is at the top of the game
There are many on here that are use to cue makers who get hundreds to thousands for their cues and as soon as you drive it out the shop just like a car it's worth 50-75% less than what ya paid. It doesn't matter if your getting buried with you new cue but at the end of the day a hard working American likes to be safe in a few thousand dollar investment but that's ok too if you like that.
There a are a few that are happy with a few hundred dollar cue and don't care one way or another and that's cool too. No matter what way you chose pool is great and all cues are art and people should focus on that.
Thing is I hear no one on here asking how Ernie at Gina cue charges so much, or Bob Manzino, or Tonkin etc with the exception of Ernie prob it's because they cater from lower priced cues up to big money cues so all levels of cue lovers can get one if they wish. Tony doesn't do it, is his choice, because he has nothing below a certain price point and keep production to a strict minimum. He's had people beg him to make BB sneaky Petes and pay $3500-5000 just so they can get his work for less and he refuses.
Hope some of that helps maybe good luck
